THE PRODUCERS
June 3 – June 21, 2015

Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks Based on the 1968 Film
A scheming producer and his mousy accountant aim to produce the biggest flop on Broadway in Mel Brooks’ laugh-out-loud spectacle.

Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in anyone familiar with Mel Brooks’ classic cult comedy film. Now as a big Broadway musical, THE PRODUCERS once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. It is a truly “boffo” hit, winning a record twelve Tony Awards and wowing capacity crowds night after night. The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history thereby bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime For Hitler”), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends. With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (ANNIE) and music and lyrics by Mr. Brooks THE PRODUCERS skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!”

DPH_Future Feset 2015 logoThe 25th Anniversary of FutureFest!
July 17 – 19, 2015

The Dayton Playhouse and theFutureFest 2015 Committees are planning ahead for this very special FutureFest year. There will be a FutureFest Gala on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel to kick off the event. Included at the Gala will be a community art auction and sale.

Dayton Playhouse is now seeking artists to donate pieces in any media with our theme of “Comedy/Tragedy” to be included in the Art Auction.

While local businesses and our patrons donate much of the money needed for this nationally-recognized event, additional fundraising is still a necessity. We are hoping that artists in our community, and outside, will support our efforts to celebrate new work by donating one or more pieces of their work to help us fund this important event. Our artwork theme for this year is Comedy/Tragedy. We are open to submissions in all mediums. Artist may sign their work and are encouraged to suggest a sale price.

Works received early enough may be displayed and some will be sold during our production of the musical Grease, which runs, May 1-17, 2015. Artist names will be published in all FutureFest media communications, on Facebook, our website and our FutureFest programs. Buyers will be asked to display the work they have purchased during our FutureFest kick-off event on July 16 at the Crowne Plaza. Work that has not sold during our production of Grease, will be offered for sale, or auction, FutureFest weekend July 17-19. Submissions qualify as 501c3 donations. All proceeds go to the Dayton Playhouse. Submitting artists will receive free admission to the July 16 Crowne Plaza event.

Art Submission Forms are available online at THIS LINK . To learn more about our Art Sale Fundraiser, contact Dodie Lockwood, 937.228.8635, or dodieannl@yahoo.com.
