Assistant House Manager/House Assistant Needed at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

Assistant House Managers must be self-motivated individuals who are capable of working in a fast-paced, exciting entertainment environment and communicating effectively with patrons, volunteers and in-house staff while positively representing the face of Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.

Reports to: House Managers

Position Responsibilities:

  • Preshow set up
  • Coordinating ticket takers
  • Troubleshooting seating and parking issues
  • Coordinating with stage management curtain time and intermissions
  • Tabulating house counts
  • Completing appropriate forms
  • Collecting and reporting transient parking revenue
  • Additional duties as deemed necessary for individual productions

Additionally, this position will be required to work as a House Assistant with Playhouse’s House Managers/other Assistant House Managers and as a Parking Assistant if needed. This position will require the successful candidate to participate in safety training including but not limited to First Aid, CPR/AED, BBP and Fire Extinguisher.

This is a seasonal, part-time position in which candidates will be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends.

Skills needed:
An ideal candidate has excellent people skills with strong leadership and organizational skills, possesses solid interpersonal/communication skills, is able to handle stress well and is a team player.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to handle light physical labor (lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 lbs.). Candidate will be required to stand and walk and occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch. Candidate must be able to negotiate stairs (up and down) without assistance.

Organizational Overview
The Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) is a professional organization for theatre education with more than 100,000 members nationwide. EdTA’s mission is shaping lives through theatre education by:  Honoring student achievement in theatre and enriching their theatre education experience; Supporting teachers by providing professional development, networking opportunities, resources, and recognition; and Influencing public opinion that theatre education is essential and builds life skills. EdTA operates the International Thespian Society (ITS), an honorary organization that has inducted more than 2 million theatre students since its founding in 1929.

Summary
Partners with the Director of Events and Education and the Education and Events team to plan and manage member focused events, such as the International Thespian Festival, Junior Thespian Festival, and the EdTA National Conference, by performing the following duties.  Additionally, supports the creation of professional development curriculum and materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develops, prioritizes, and implements project plans, including educational workshop programs, teaching artist management, and student showcases and competitions.
  • Negotiates contracts and maintains relationships with teaching artists and preferred vendors.
  • Compiles estimated cost models, submits final budget, tracks budget statistics, and prepares management reports.
  • Assists in developing the logistics and execution plan for four major national events.
  • Negotiates group air and hotel contracts for event staffers and attendees to meet approved budget.
  • Sets up meeting and event schedules, organizes materials, reviews transportation itineraries, and books venues and services.
  • Assists in creation of internal and external promotional pieces.
  • Coordinates registration and payment procedures, promotional advertising and mailings, and corporate sponsorship activities.
  • Organizes required catering services and room and communication equipment setup.
  • Supports the management of on-site staffing and registration.
  • Determines appropriate responses to problems and emergencies.
  • Develops materials and manages a cohort of subject matter experts to grow the organizations catalogue of professional development offerings.
  • Provides project status updates.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information at a high level.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and process documents.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply basic mathematics, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions, proportions, and percentages.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient knowledge of the MS Office Suite and general comfort with new technologies.
