Auditions Announced for LES MISERABLES at Commonwealth Artists Summer Theatre

C.A.S.T. Students will present LES MISERABLES

CAST_logoThe Commonwealth Artists Summer Theatre (C.A.S.T.), under the direction of Fort Thomas Independent Schools’ theatre teacher and director, Jason Burgess, will produce LES MISERABLES.

LES MISERABLES is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. In nineteenth century France, Jean Valjean is released from years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean’s adopted daughter.

Auditions for LES MISERABLES will take place at Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, KY on Saturday, March 11th from 1pm to 4pm and Saturday, March 18th from 2pm to 5pm. Technical Design and Crew interviews will take place at Highlands as well on Saturday, March 11th from 9am to noon. All audition and crew interview information is located at www.castnky.com. You must be an incoming high school freshman to a graduating high school senior to audition for LES MISERABLES. Any student from any school in the tri-state area (Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky) may audition for LES MISERABLES and be considered for any role. Anyone interested in learning more about C.A.S.T. or any student interested in being a part of the production whether it is onstage or in a backstage capacity, C.A.S.T. will be hosting a Facebook live chat and simultaneously an Instagram Live chat on Tuesday, February 28th at 8pm. To participate on Facebook, just log on and like the Commonwealth Artists Summer Theatre page. To participate on Instagram, just log on and follow castnky.

Performance dates for LES MISERABLES are Friday, July 21st thru Sunday, July 23rd and Friday, July 28th thru 30th. All performances will take place in the Performing Arts Center at Highlands High School located at 2400 Memorial Pkwy, Fort Thomas, KY 41075.

C.A.S.T. is a project for students in the Greater Cincinnati area who range from being incoming freshman to graduating seniors in high school. It was started with the idea of giving high school students a different avenue to be involved in a theatrical production and potentially master classes when schools are not in session.  The program doesn’t just focus on acting in a production. The entire crew is made up of students including most of the designers for the different departments involved in creating a production. The ultimate goal is to open the doors of collaboration to students from different high schools in the Greater Cincinnati Area to create and produce a show together and to establish new relationships and create new friendships.

For any questions regarding C.A.S.T, the production of LES MISERABLES or anything else, visit www.castnky.com or please contact Jason Burgess at 859-815-2512 or castnky@gmail.com.

Auditions Announced for THE TOXIC AVENGER at Sunset Players

SSP_logoThe Sunset Players announces auditions for their summer musical, the regional community theater premier of THE TOXIC AVENGER.

March 12 and 13, 7-9pm

Directed by Jerry Yearout, Music Director Allen Lindsey

Show dates are July 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, and 22nd.

Based on Lloyd Kaufman’s cult film and winner of the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical, The Toxic Avenger is a charming love story and laugh-out-loud musical that has it all: an unlikely hero, his beautiful girlfriend, a corrupt New Jersey mayor and two guys who play… well, everyone else … bullies, mobsters, old ladies and stiletto-wearing back up singers.  With book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music and lyrics by David Bryan, the show also features the most memorable and unbelievable duet you’ll ever see on any stage.

Melvin Ferd, the Third, wants to clean up Tromaville, the most polluted town in New Jersey (just off Exit 13B on the Turnpike). Foiled by the mayor’s bullies, Melvin is dumped into a vat of radioactive toxic waste, only to reemerge as The Toxic Avenger, New Jersey’s first superhero. Affectionately known as Toxie, our new hero is a seven-foot mutant freak with superhuman strength and a heart as big as Newark. He’s out to save New Jersey, end global warming, and woo the blind librarian in town.

It’s a toxic love story with an environmental twist! The Toxic Avenger will leave audiences laughing in the aisles as it rocks the house. Featuring a wailin’ rock score, this comical musical has something for everyone to enjoy.
