DTGOpen audition notice for THE NORWEGIANS by C. Denby Swanson

Auditions will be held Mon & Tue, Dec 6 & 7, 2021, starting at 7:00-9:30 pm both nights.

As of right now, the wearing of facial masks will be required at the audition.

The Dayton Theatre Guild at the Caryl D. Philip TheatreScape
430 Wayne Ave, Dayton OH, 45410

Directed by David Shough
Produced by Christina Tomazinis & Rick Flynn

A funny, bitter, sometimes odd comedy about two women, single in a cold Minnesota winter, who each hire a pair of really, really nice Norwegian gangsters to whack their respective ex-boyfriends. Then things get complicated.

Casting Requirements:
Audition selections are available for download at the following link:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vyq39hqueb93r8k/AABQ_QIcwD2kX1eDb20ftIJaa?dl=0

Director’s note: “Familiarity with (but not memorization of) the selections will be a good thing at audition; cold readings demonstrate your ability to read; I would like to see something of your ability to create a character.”

  • Please bring a résumé and headshot.
  • Please bring all scheduling conflicts between Dec 8, 2021 and Feb 20, 2022.

Character descriptions are below. The two men need passable Minnesota accents ‐‐ (recommended viewing, the Coen Bros. movie Fargo). Please take your best shot at the accent at auditions.
Race is not relevant for the women.
All characters play 30s to 40s.

You need only attend one night, but are welcome at both. If you cannot attend either audition date, contact the director at davids@pbstudios.com or 937-626-2674, and we will make time.

Performance dates: February 4-20, 2022.
Rehearsals will run through the holidays with appropriate accommodation of the schedules of all involved.

Seeking 2 women, 2 men. Please see detailed descriptions of the roles below.

  • Tor: The gentler, more reflective of the two gangsters.
  • Gus: More impulsive and brash than Tor (though in a really nice way). Might be part Italian.
  • Olive: A Texas transplant (no accent), not at home in Minnesota yet. And not at all sure this is what she wants to do. A bit naïve.
  • Betty: A Kentucky transplant. She’s been in Minnesota longer, and it has made her harder, more cynical. And given to long speeches
