THE DINING ROOM is a comedy of manners written by A.R. Gurney. It is set in a single dining room where 18 scenes from different households overlap and intertwine. Each story is focused around a different family during different time periods who has in their possession the same dining room furniture set, manufactured in 1898. It is the setting for breakfasts, dinners, and all special occasions for each of the families who gather round the table.

Hilarity, Texas style! An over-the-top wedding, three feuding sisters and a church full of small town eccentrics. What could possibly go wrong? In this fast-paced, laugh-a-minute comedy, the Futrelle sisters of Fayro, Texas – Frankie, Twink and their estranged sister, Honey Raye – are thrown together to pull off a family wedding. But it is not going well. Frankie’s oldest twin daughter is marrying the son of the queen of what passes for high society in Fayro and Frankie is desperate to make this antebellum-themed wedding an elegant affair. It soon becomes obvious that Fate has other plans…

Auditions Announced for ORDINARY DAYS at The Refuge

The Refuge Arts Center is a new Cincinnati based theatre.

We are happy to announce that this summer for our very first season we will be putting on a production of ORDINARY DAYS.

Character Descriptions:

  • Claire (traditionally cast as female)  Soprano, 20-30s: Claire is embarking on a new stage of her life with boyfriend Jason. The decision to share an apartment is the catalyst for Claire to face her past.
  • Jason (traditionally cast as male) Tenor, 20-30s: Jason is the boyfriend of Claire. A romantic at heart, he spends the bulk of the musical attempting to further his relationship, at first by moving in and then by proposing. Claire consistently resists his attempts leading to the central conflict of their story arc.
  • Deb (traditionally cast as female) Mezzo, 20-30s: Deb is a cynical and defensive grad student who is struggling to find focus in her life. She meets struggling artist Warren when he finds her thesis notes in the street. 
  • Warren (traditionally cast as male) Tenor, 20-30s: The cheerful and sometimes annoyingly optimistic Warren sees beauty in the simple things in life. The heart of the show and it’s message.

Auditions Announced for FACE ME at Yellow Springs Theater Company

Enjoy a stretch outside your comfort zone? Imagine acting ON STAGE??? The Yellow Springs Theater Company is staging plays during the Ten Minute Play Festival in Yellow Springs, Ohio, on June 2 and 3, 2023.

Like to get involved and step into someone elses’s shoes? Then join me to audition for an open casting of “Face Me” by Debra Williamson — a one-act comedic play where stretching yourself and saying “Yes” leads several women to see themselves in a different light.

Open to all actors! Cold readings will be done from script.

We are looking to fill five roles in “Face Me” — (4 women and 1 person of any gender). Women’s roles range in age from 40-80; other person from 35-50)

Roles listed below:

  • BRYN: Early 50’s; instructor for About Face class. RACHEL: 40-50; personal trainer.
  • JERI: Late 60’s; visual artist.
  • DIEDRE: 70-80; retired.
  • SALEM: Late 40’s; college student.

He tracks down clues and puts suspects to the test — and then, another mystery unfolds. Nate finds himself facing the biggest challenge of his career. And worse yet, Mom is all out of pancakes!

This fun-filled musical reminds us of the importance of friendship and opening our minds to new possibilities. Recommended for kindergarten and up.
