The Dayton Theatre Guild is dedicated to assembling a diverse, experienced, committed group of directors so we can continue to bring quality theater to our audiences.

Here are the shows in our 2026/2027 season with performance dates and approximate audition dates:

BIRTHDAY CANDLES by Noah Haidle

Performance dates: Aug 21-Sep 6, 2026

Auditions: Jul 6 & 7, 2026

(3 women, 3 men)
This is an Ensemble piece that follows one woman’s life from age 17 to 101. The other five actors play her children, her grandchildren, and other important people during the highs and lows of her life. One cake is baked to celebrate her birthdays over a century. It’s a warm, well-told story about one woman’s life, where the audience travels with her through her journey.

THE THIN PLACE by Lucas Hnath

Performance Dates: Oct 9-25, 2026

Auditions: Aug 24 & 25, 2026

(3 women, 1 man)
A young woman, Hilda, is grieving the loss of her grandmother and the mysterious disappearance of her mother. She seeks out a professional medium, Linda, to help her connect with her lost loved ones. They become entangled in a seance that blurs the lines between the supernatural and the psychological. This play explores themes of belief, manipulation, and the power of the mind, questioning whether Linda’s abilities are real or if Hilda’s grief has created a psychological break, leaving the audience to wonder what is real.

*SEASON EXTRA*

HOW IT FEELS TO FALL FROM THE SKY by Dominic Finocchiaro

Performance dates: Dec 4-13, 2026 *(two weekends)

Auditions: Oct 12 & 13, 2026

(3 women, 2 men)
After witnessing a woman plummet from the sky, five strangers in New York form a support group to process what they have seen. They decide to meet once, and then see if they need to meet further. Some of the people form a stronger bond than others, and some form relationships outside the group. This is a dramedy about loneliness, loss, and the unending possibility of salvation inside human connection.

BUG by Tracy Letts

Performance dates: Jan 29_Feb 14, 2027

Auditions: Dec 7 & 8, 2026

(2 women, 3 men)
The play takes place in a seedy Oklahoma City motel room, and centers on Agnes, a divorced waitress with a fondness for cocaine and isolation, and Peter, a soft-spoken drifter with PTSD and a psychological disorder. Agnes stays at the motel to avoid her abusive ex-husband, Jerry, who was just released from prison. Jerry eventually shows up, and there is also a bug infestation in the motel room. Themes touch on paranoia, and psychological motives.

SKELETON CREW by Dominique Morisseau

Performance dates: Mar 26-Apr 11, 2027

Auditions: Feb 1 & 2, 2027

(2 women, 2 men — all four African-American roles)
This play is part of the Detroit Project, a Trilogy of plays that takes place in the break room of a Detroit auto stamping plant in 2008. The characters form a makeshift family as their auto plant faces closure amid the Great Recession. The four characters navigate loyalty, desperation, and the struggle to survive, as fear about rumors of the plant’s closure grows. Added to that is the repeated thefts from the factory. As the chips fall, the same questions surface for each of them: when push comes to shove, do I save my own skin? What am I worth beyond my income? And who is to blame when my job disappears?

MOLL by John B. Keane

Performance dates: May 21-Jun 6, 2027

Auditions: Mar 29 & 30, 2027

(2 women, 5 men)
In this comedy, three priests of a rural Irish presbytery lose their housekeeper, and interview and hire Moll Kettle, a sharp-witted woman, to replace her. Moll takes over the running of the presbytery, manipulating the three priests and the parish to her own advantage. She favors the elderly canon, and feeds him well, while nearly starving the younger curates. She organizes bingo to raise money for a new school, secures a pension for herself, and effectively becomes a powerful, almost tyrannical figure within the parish.

The Passing of Peggy Goodwin

From Loveland Stage Company’s Facebook page

Loveland Stage Company is heartbroken to announce that we have lost another wonderful member of the LSC family. Peggy Goodwin was a true behind-the-scenes angel—faithfully helping with programs, grant writing, offering counsel and advice to the board, tending our front-of-house plants, supporting the Loveland Film Festival, and giving her time wherever it was needed.

Peggy was an absolute delight to serve with. Not only was she consistently active and loyal to LSC, but she was also a Valentine Lady of Loveland, a dedicated volunteer for the Loveland Farmers’ Market, and a bright presence in so many spaces that uplift our community at large. Her hands, heart, and spirit will be greatly missed.
For those who knew her, and for those who may not have known her personally but have benefited from her beautiful work here, we offer our deepest condolences. We will continue striving to create, serve, and act with love in memory of the beloved members we have lost this year.

Peggy’s celebration of life will take place on January 18, 2026 from 1-2:30pm at Loveland City Hall.

IT’S FRITZ Review

By Katrina “Kat” Reynolds

It’s Fritz presented by Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati through December 31st. I attended the Opening Night performance.

The cast of It’s Fritz! presented by Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati. Photo by Ryan Kurtz.

Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati carries on its tradition of producing a family-friendly offering during the holiday season with the premiere of It’s Fritz! with book by Zina Camblin and Music & Lyrics by David Kisor. A sequel to 2023’s Fiona: The Musical, audiences go on a journey with world-famous Fiona’s little brother as he tries to find what makes him special in the wonderful world of zoo animals.

Director D. Lynn Meyers fills the experience with familiar touches from the first part of this musical expedition as many of the characters have returned for a second time around. Scenic & Lighting Designer Brian c. Mehring features a beautifully colourful set with all sorts of places to play. Costume Designer Maria Fernanda Ortiz Lopez adds such a creative spin on each character, morphing the players’ human figures with distinctively animal-specific touches. (The UC jacket on the bearcat is a fire choice.) Dee Anne Bryll’s choreography excellence is center-stage on this one, offering a proficient range of dance styles to complement not only the music, but the characters’ arcs as well.

Per usual, ETC’s large cast of performing artists is enthusiastic and versatile. In no particular order, Michael G. Bath delivers as a “street-wise” sparrow named Hugh; Montez Jenkins Copeland serves and then some as Raffe/Dr. Cornelius; and KG Rucker offers a nearly unrecognizable version of themselves as Audrey/Reporter. And not to be overlooked, Brooke Steele knocks it out of the park as Colobus Monkey/Diana. I want to be her when I grow up (Brooke, that is – not Diana.)

While the story is a bit weak and the songs end right as they seem to get off the ground, it is important for us to remember this show is geared toward being inclusive of all audience members’ attention span. There are some goofy laughs, touching moments, and the lesson told is timeless: you will discover your special gifts if you practice patience, muster up the courage to jump in, and accept the support of your family. It’s Fritz! reminds us that a feel-good piece is always in style.

There will be an accompanist at the audition. Please provide your own sheet music for your song. There will also be a dance call with our choreographer. A video will be posted to our website if you’d like to learn the dance in advance.

Cast of Characters:

No roles have been pre-cast. We are seeking to assemble a very diverse cast of individuals. Since this show takes place in a land before time every role will be cast everything blind. Any gender identity/race/age/ability can audition for any role. This story takes place before any social constructs exist yet. We are willing to adjust vocal ranges to accommodate the actors cast.

Jamila – Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano (F3-D5) Jamila The Peacemaker is the calm level headed leader of the tribe. Charismatic, Confident, protective, and motherly, but a little arrogant and stuck in past ways.

Zazzalil – Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano (G3-D5) The tribe’s scapegoat. Blamed very everything bad that happens. A Creative and innovative, but lazy inventor. Revolutionary thinker, but doesn’t always consider the consequences of their actions.

Molag – Vocal Range: Non Singing Role. Molag The War Master. The tribe’s former leader who has passed on the role to Jemilla, and is now walking the Earth while serving as our comic narrator. We still want this character to be comedic but also a villain in this story. A comparison that I often make is Frank from Shameless if you’ve ever seen that show.

Emberly- Mezzo-Soprano (G3-D5) Emberly takes their role as tribe taste-tester VERY seriously. Becoming the world’s first sort of chef. Analytical, cautious but curious to learn or experience new things. Her love story with Grunt serves as the B plot to this story.

Grunt – Vocal Range: High Baritone (C3-F4) An Outsider to the tribe.

Timid and sensitive, wants to feel included and tries hard to do so despite failures. They invent painting and shares this passion with Emberly.

Chorn – Vocal Range: Alto or high baritone (G3-E5) Sings in an “Enya type voice” at the end of the show. The odd one of the tribe. Their vocabulary is seemingly limited. They do attempt to communicate to the tribe despite this to a varying degree of success. In the end it is revealed that they are an ethereal alien that was sent down to monitor and aid the progression on human life.

Keeri – Vocal Range: Mezzo-soprano (A3-C5) The tribe’s head gatherer and Zazzalil’s supportive Best Friend. Not too bright, but kind and empathetic. Very bubbly. She invents dancing.

Schwoopsie – Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano (A3-D5) The tribe entertainer who invents the first joke and keeps her tribe in stitches. Turning their own name into their own catchphrase.

Ducker – High Baritone (A2-F4) The official religous leader and mouth piece of the all mighty duck the tribe worships. Uses position in the tribe for his own gain. Self-serving, opportunistic and privileged.

Tiblyn – Vocal Range: Mezzo-Soprano (B3-D5) Loyal and dedicated to the tribe and their task. Holding up the sky. Absolutely crushed to find out the sky is holding itself up just fine. A hopeless romantic. Innocent, yet determined.

Smelly-Balls – Vocal Range: High baritone (A2-F4) Fancies himself the protector of the tribe. Not so bright. When it comes to bravery, all bark and no bite. The first to step up to the plate despite rarely ever hitting the ball.

Ensemble – We are adding a small ensemble to our production. The ensemble will understudy some of the leads in addition to puppeting the animals and playing the neanderthals in act 2. They also will be in dances symbolizing forces of nature such as the storm or the fire. As well as Chorns tribe of Aliens at the end of the show.
