In 1926, radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie an international celebrity, and luminous watches the latest rageÑuntil the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. Her chief adversary is her former employer, Arthur Roeder, an idealistic man who cannot bring himself to believe that the same element that shrinks tumors could have anything to do with the terrifying rash of illnesses among his employees. As the case goes on, however, Grace finds herself battling not just with the U.S. Radium Corporation, but with her own family and friends, who fear that her campaign for justice will backfire. Written with warmth and humor, Radium Girls is a fast-moving, highly theatrical ensemble piece for 9 to 10 actors, who play more than 30 partsÑfriends, co-workers, lovers, relatives, attorneys, scientists, consumer advocates, and myriad interested bystanders.

A prequel to Trouble Bubbles at the Hot Springs, X*ACT brings you another musical melodrama!

Step right up, folks—because San Juan Capistrano is about to get a whole lot wilder! From sweethearts and school marms to gypsies, villains, and scalawags, Dirty Deeds at the Depot is a rip-roaring old-fashioned melodrama full of romance, mystery, comedy, and a whole heap of trouble at the train station.

We’re looking for actors, singers, schemers, and scene-stealers ready to bring this wild west tale to life!

Tuesday, September 30 at 7:00 PM

About the Show:
The year is 1895. The brand-new Santa Fe Depot has just opened, and with it comes young love, rekindled flames, outrageous villains, daring heroines, mysterious travelers, and plenty of “Hiss! Boo! Awww!” moments for the audience. Will love triumph? Will evil be foiled? Will someone finally save the Camisole Ranch? Find out as the mayhem unfolds in DIRTY DEEDS AT THE DEPOT.

Casting Roles Include:

  • Lacie Camisole – Innocent ranch heiress, torn between duty and true love.
  • Helen Highwater – A no-nonsense school marm who can outshoot any cowboy.
  • Dusty Trails – The tongue-tied hero on a train ride toward destiny.
  • Claire Voyant – A mysterious gypsy with secrets up her sleeve.
  • Justin Tyme – The dependable station master with a heart full of regrets.
  • Professor Thaddeus Mack – A smooth-talking snake-oil villain.
  • Duncan Disorderly – Comic sidekick and professional mischief-maker.
  • Jerry Mander – A judge with bigger dreams than his little town.
  • Cy Kosis & Paige Turner – Sound effects wizard and cue-card maven.
  • Plus locals, walk-ons, and extras (Wyatt & Josie Earp, Sheriff Willie Becaught, townsfolk, and more!)

Mild preparation necessary, please bring a few bars from your favorite musical mumber (if auditioning for a singing role), other than that, bring your personality and be ready to read from the script!

Production dates: Dec 12-21

So dust off your cowboy boots, polish that pocket watch, and get ready for a melodrama full of love, laughter, villains, and very dirty deeds!

AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE explores what happens when a water contamination crisis puts a community in peril, causing two brothers face off in a battle of political ambitions and moral integrity. Nearly 150 years after Ibsen’s masterpiece first thrilled audiences, the issues this play raises remain timeless. This will be the regional premiere of Robert Falls’ unique adaptation which moves the play to a modern setting.

Have you ever wondered how a professional actor works with a playwright’s text? In this masterclass, actor and teaching pro Robert Cornelius (currently featured in Where the Mountain Meets the Sea) will introduce you to the musicality and poetry of playwright, August Wilson. Using monologues from Wilson’s American Century Cycle of plays, each one set in a different decade of the 20th century, you will dive into the text and have a chance to speak the words yourself. Whether you are an audience member interested in a behind-the-scenes look at an actor’s process, or a performer looking to enhance your skills, this masterclass is for you.

Robert Cornelius is an actor and educator based in Chicago. He has taught at every level from high school to working professionals and has performed professionally all over the country.
