SNAPSHOTS: A Musical Scrapbook is an original musical by Stephen Schwartz, with a book by David Stern. The show incorporates over two dozen of Schwartz’s iconic songs, including hits from Wicked, Pippin, Godspell, The Baker’s Wife, Rags, Working, Children of Eden, and Enchanted. It’s a touching and authentic exploration of how we fall in love and the poignant power of trusting our hearts and memories.

The Human Race Theatre Company’s CAMELOT

3/5 – Due to the great demand for seats, we’ve added extra performances to Camelot. Instead of ending on April 6, this mythical journal will now run through April 13.

Experience a soaring, tighter Camelot at The Human Race Theatre Company

David Lee’s focused adaptation breathes new life into Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s beloved Camelot. At its heart lies the eternal triangle of Arthur, Guenevere, and Lancelot, their story told through the musical’s most memorable songs. A live ensemble band helps the classic score soar as the King, Queen, and Knights of the Round Table perform cherished numbers ranging from tender ballads like “If Ever I Would Leave You” and “I Loved You Once in Silence” to rousing favorites such as “The Lusty Month of May” and the unforgettable title song. This bold remake of the 1960 classic ensures audiences will depart with smiles on their faces and soaring melodies stuck in their minds.

“Arthurian legends date back to 300-500 CE, as Christianity and pagan belief systems were clashing, and different political factions were warring for power,” notes Emily N. Wells, Artistic Director of The Human Race Theatre Company. “I’ve been enthralled by the legends for a long time and find that we can all relate to the eternal quest for a round table – a symbol of an ideal world where all are welcome.”

Ian Axness, Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Resident Music Director at University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music, provides musical direction and Kiersten Farmer (Dayton Playhouse Joseph…) choreographs.  Wells directs the eight-person cast of revelers: Justin King, Jason Slattery, Tai Rosenblatt, Christian Hall and Shannon Lane, with Adam Thatcher as Arthur/Reveler 6, Aleah Vassell as Guenevere/Reveler 7, and Trevor Bunce as Lancelot/Reveler 8.

FHSD Film Program Thrives with Premiere of 2025 Film, BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

The Film students of Anderson and Turpin High Schools are collaborating once again on a short film, building on their past experience and success. “Behind Closed Doors” premieres on March 14 and 15 at 7:00 pm at Anderson High school. The thriller tells the story of Kate, whose friend Zach has something mysterious hidden in his basement.

This is the second year that Turpin and Anderson Film students have combined for the film project, including both Directors, Turpin senior Mary Harpring and Anderson senior Benjamin Hartong. In 2024, Hartong was Assistant Director and Harpring was an actor, so their expertise covers all aspects of the process.

Harpring also wrote the screenplay. She began working on the story and script in early 2024 with both Anderson Film Teacher Chad Weddle and Turpin Theatre teacher Joey Loebker.

“I was excited to begin working with Mary,” said Weddle. “She has written things in the past for collaborative projects, and I knew she had both the talent and skill to handle this difficult process.”

This is Turpin Senior Joshua Yamaguchi’s third year composing the score for the annual film projects. He began with the 2023 film, “The Whisper House,” which went on to win a national Student Film award from NATAS, the organization which organizes the Emmy® Awards.

ETC Hosts Seventh Annual PLAY/WRITE: The Jackie Demaline Regional Collegiate Playwriting Competition

Submission Deadline of May 31, 2025

(Cincinnati, OH) Tristate-area playwrights, it’s your time to shine! Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati hosts the seventh annual PLAY/write: The Jackie Demaline Regional Collegiate Playwriting Competition, held in memory of writer, critic, and arts advocate, Jackie Demaline. Students currently enrolled full- or part-time at a university or college in the Greater Cincinnati region are encouraged to submit their plays to the competition. Dependent upon submissions, up to three winners may be chosen. Winners will receive $2,500 from the Jackie Demaline Fund and a professionally staged reading of their script.

Demaline’s love of the arts started at a young age. Throughout her life, she continued to be a passionate believer in the arts as an entertainment writer and editor for multiple newspapers and publications. After moving to Cincinnati in 1994, she covered theatre and the arts for The Cincinnati Enquirer for 20 years and worked as an important catalyst for change and growth during a time when new theatres and companies were popping up all over Cincinnati, helping to secure their place in the community.

After a four-year battle with cancer, Demaline passed away on June 17, 2018. As her final gift to the community, she arranged for her estate to fund the PLAY/write competition. Through this, her legacy lives on—providing new voice development, kick-starting arts careers, and caring for the community through thoughtful programming.

Submission guidelines:

WHO:

  • Early-career playwrights under the age of 30 currently enrolled at a university or college within a 75-mile radius of the Greater Cincinnati region. Playwrights cannot have had a professional or Equity production of any of their work.

WHEN:

  • Submission deadline: 11:59 pm EST, May 31, 2025.

WHAT:

  • Original, unpublished full-length plays (minimum of 50 pages) written in English. Translations, musicals, adaptations, and children’s plays not accepted.
  • Plays must be typed and page-numbered in either a PDF or Microsoft Word format. Plays must appear in a professional script format, examples of which can be found on the Dramatists Guild of America website.
  • Subject matter is open; however, the play should address some of the characteristics Jackie considered when critiquing theatre:
    • Does it tell me something I didn’t know about myself or the world in which I live?
    • Does it hold up a mirror at an angle I’ve never tried so that the things I know now suddenly possess new meaning?
    • Does it move me? Excite me? Provoke me?
    • Does it make me laugh or cry? Make me uncomfortable? Make me think?
