The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati (TCT) has embarked on a campaign to purchase, restore, and reimagine the historically significant Emery Theater. This partnership will revitalize the theatre, a treasured cultural asset, and provide a permanent home for children’s theatre in Cincinnati’s vibrant urban core. What TCT envisions is not simply a restoration, but a reinvention of the theater into a modern and memorable venue equipped with the latest technology that inspires and teaches diverse audiences. And TCT’s plans to incorporate the most modern technology, stage lifts and projection mapping, will enliven the audience experience and overcome backstage and wing limitations. Through this remarkable technology and planned expanded programming, TCT will revitalize an icon, return to its original home, and put Cincinnati on the map as a family theatrical destination.

TROUBLE IN MIND

May 12-June 3
[Over-the-Rhine]

Directed by Torie Wiggins

Cast: Candice Handy* as Wiletta Mayer, Brandon Burton as John Nevins, Cary Davenport* as Eddie Fenton, Ren Jackson* as Sheldon Forrester, Matthew Lewis Johnson* as Bill O’Wray, Joneal Joplin* as Henry, Courtney Lucien* as Judy Sears, Justin McCombs* as Al Manners & Brianna Miller as Millie Davis *Appearing through an Agreement between this theatre, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, and Actors’ Equity Association, the Union of Professional Actors and Stage Managers in the United States

Get a glimpse behind the scenes of 1950s Broadway! Wiletta Mayer, a talented Black actor, is confronted with the decision to compromise her values when cast in the starring role of a “progressive” play by a newly integrated theatre. As the show goes on, the curtains open, revealing a trailblazing backstage story of egos and attitudes, and an insightful and darkly comedic look at who we are and who we want to be. First staged over 60 years ago, Trouble in Mind is considered the masterpiece of actor and playwright Alice Childress.
