Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati presents regional premiere Comedy
Grand Horizons, January 14 – February 5, 2023

(Cincinnati, OH) Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati (ETC) kicks off the new year with the regional premiere comedy Grand Horizons by award-winning playwright Bess Wohl. It’s out with the old and in with the new (sort of) in this raucous story about a senior couple’s divorce. Bess Wohl’s Tony-nominated comedy is a hilarious, heartbreaking commentary on marriage, family, and the wisdom that comes with age—or not. Playing January 14-February 5, 2023. Directed by Brian Robertson.

Over a quiet dinner for two, Bill and Nancy serenely decide to divorce after fifty years of marriage. While Nancy feels liberated and Bill seems unfazed, their adult sons Brian and Ben don’t exactly take it well. As the “kids” descend on the Grand Horizons senior living community to mediate, everything they thought they knew about their parents comes crashing down. Bursting with all the joy and pathos of everyday life, Grand Horizons is theatre at its most enjoyable and familiar.

“It’s about following your bliss and that it’s never too late to try and become who you want to be,” says Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers. “Grand Horizons is a brutally honest and almost biting story about life’s experiences but seen through a comedic lens. It teaches us to cherish what we have in the moment but to keep looking for what you think will make you happy, whatever or whoever that may be.”

COL_Pageant

Loveland resident Camila Medina has been crowned the 2023 Miss Ohio Elementary Kindergarten. Medina will assist with the Hearts Afire Valentine Pageant for ages 1-4. The fundraiser pageant will be held Feb. 11, 2023, to benefit the Loveland Stage Company.

Calling all little sweethearts! Fun pageant for babies and toddlers

LOVELAND, OHIO (Dec. 23, 2022) — Do you have a little sweetheart? The City of Loveland is partnering with the Loveland Stage Company to host the first Hearts Afire Valentine Pageant on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, from 1-3 p.m.

The pageant is part of Hearts Afire Weekend (Feb. 10-12), a city-wide event celebrating Valentine’s Day.

The Hearts Afire Valentine Pageant is a baby/toddler fundraiser pageant to benefit a local cause, the Loveland Stage Company’s HVAC system replacement. The Loveland Stage Company is a not-for-profit, award-winning theater located in the heart of Historic Downtown Loveland. It is entirely operated by volunteers who create performing arts experiences for all ages. The theater is raising funds to replace its HVAC system — an estimated $100k repair.

“The pageant is part of the fun of Hearts Afire Weekend. Loveland is like a Hallmark movie during Valentine’s Day. What’s cuter than a kid dressed up like Cupid?” said city volunteer and pageant coordinator Christina Jeranek.

The purely fun pageant is for ages 1-4. Ages 1-2 will compete to be crowned Little Ms. Valentine and Little Mr. Cupid. Ages 3-4 will compete to be crowned Ms. Valentine and Mr. Cupid. The pageant will be judged by the Loveland Valentine Ladies, a local group of women known for their community service.

In the spirit of love, all funds raised by the pageant will benefit the theater. Admission is $5. There will be a “Fan Favorite” award where the audience can participate for $1 per vote. The contestant entry fee is $15.

The pageant will feature an appearance by the 2023 Miss Ohio Elementary Kindergarten, Camila Medina. Medina is a Loveland resident.

RUBBERBAND Runs Feb. 3-4

MDT_Rubberband promoRUBBERBAND
Mutual Dance Theatre
Feb. 3-4
Aronoff Center Jarson-Kaplan Theater [Downtown]

Mutual Dance Theatre is proud to present the Cincinnati premiere of RUBBERBAND, coming to us from Montreal, Canada.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, the child of Mexican parents, artistic director Victor Quijada founded RUBBERBAND in 2002. The troupe is known in Canada and abroad as an explosive, one-of-a-kind ensemble, combining the energy of Hip Hop, the refinement of classical Ballet, and the angular quality of Contemporary Dance.

RUBBERBAND’s mixed repertory performance in Cincinnati will feature a collection dubbed “Vic’s Mix,” a “best-of” selection spanning Quijada’s immense creative territory. In an orchestrated clash of urban pop and classical composition, Quijada defies notions of theatricality and audience expectations. All the while, the physically engaging, highly athletic dance works exemplify Quijada’s signature RUBBERBAND method.
