Remainder of 2020-2021 Season Cancelled at Cincinnati Music Theatre

cmt_logoDearest CMT Family,

It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of the remainder of our 2019/2020 Main Stage and Studio Series seasons. This was a very difficult decision, and one we made in conjunction with our partners at The Cincinnati Arts Association and the Aronoff Center. I speak for myself and the CMT Board of Directors when I say that the arts are a vital and important part of our society and culture. Time spent in the Aronoff Center, our rehearsal spaces, and building and painting our sets is time spent in community with one another and we all miss it dearly.

We are not sitting idle during these trying times. In response to a rising tide of racism, hate and violence, CMT is forming a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee chaired by current Board Member Jacqlyn Schott. This committee will be a lens on how to maintain openness and foster a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive community theater community. Our VP/Creative, Kendra Struthers, has formed a Creative Committee, and they are beginning the work to choose directors and shows for our 2021/2022 season. We are also working on producing a show with our fellow Aronoff resident company, Revolution Dance Theater. CMT Board Members Adrianna Boris (Marketing Chair) and Jacqlyn Schott (Development and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Chair) are working with Revolution Dance Theatre’s Founding Artistic Director, David Choate, on a performance featuring a diverse cast and addressing our current times.

Brighter days are ahead, and we will come through these dark times. Keep your hearts open and, above all else, show care and love to each other.

Warmest Regards and Holiday Wishes,

Peter B. Merten
President, Cincinnati Music Theater Board of Directors

LEMONADE Presented Online by Equality Productions

EP_logoOn December 13 and/or 20, see the outdoor recording of the talented cast of LEMONADE written by James Prideauxdirected by Ed Cohen, and produced by Equality Productions with assistance from Falcon Theatre.

LEMONADE features a pair of Midwestern housewives who find themselves one afternoon trying to escape the boredom of their lives by selling lemonade on the side of a highway.  Along the way, we learn how much each needs passion and drama in their lives, true or not.  Funny and sad at the same time, LEMONADE reveals how desperately we seek to avoid the mundane and how little people really know what’s beneath the surface in their friends and the people we meet every day.

The talented actresses who volunteered their talents to raise money for Falcon Theatre are:

  • Katey Blood as Mabel
  • Eileen Earnest as Edith

TO RECEIVE THE YOUTUBE LINK for the recording, send a donation directly to Falcon Theatre @ https://falcontheater.net/patron-information/

The suggested donation is $10, but donate what you can. Then email equalityproductionscincy@gmail.com how much you donated so we can total the donations given.

In return, you will receive a link to the recording on the show days. The recording will only be available to view those two days.

Equality Productions produces online theater and is expected to raise nearly $2000 in 2020 for charitable organizations in the US and Canada. Its mission is to produce theater that focuses on the voices of women, people of color, and the LBGTQIA+ communities.

The Human Race Theatre Company, Dayton’s premier professional theatre, is pleased to announce an “Encore Performance” of its 2017 world premiere production of 26 PEBBLES by Eric Ulloa – in recognition of the 8th anniversary of the tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Connecticut.  The production, a fundraiser for Sandy Hook Promise, will appear on the streaming platform Broadway On Demand from December 16 – 21, 2020.

“In the long list of mass shootings in our country, “ states Human Race Artistic Director Kevin Moore, “this one stands out so strongly because the victims were so young. Playwright and Broadway performer Eric Ulloa went to the community, interviewed the people of Newtown, and created this powerful play that looks at how the community came together to heal and find their way out of tragedy…to hope.”

This week of performances will serve as a fundraiser for Sandy Hook Promise – the organization founded by families of the victims to create a culture that prevents violence, ends school shootings and other harmful acts against children.  “However, a secondary benefit exists,” said Moore.  “This compelling and hopeful story of a community working together to ascend from tragedy is a lesson that many communities could very much use right now.”

The original production was directed by Igor Goldin, and the cast included Christine Brunner, Gina Handy, Scott Hunt, Jennifer Joplin, Caitlin McWethy and Jason Podplesky.  Production Stage Manager was Lexi Muller.  Scenic Design by Scott J. Kimmins; Costume Design by Jessica Pitcairn; Lighting Design by John Rensel; and Composer/Sound Design by Jay Brunner.

Tickets will be available at Broadway On Demand starting December 9th.  A single viewing is $10, with an option to add additional donations.  All sales & donations will benefit Sandy Hook Promise.  For more information and links to buying tickets, visit www.humanracetheatre.org
