Awarded Best Play in 1945 by the New York Drama Critics’ Circle and acclaimed as Williams’s first great Broadway success, this emotionally devastating portrait of hope is a memory of Saint Louis in 1937.  Tennessee Williams’s autobiographical play introduces audiences to Tom Wingfield, an aspiring poet who toils in a shoe warehouse to support his overbearing mother, Amanda, and debilitatingly shy sister, Laura after being abandoned by their father. Amanda, originally from a genteel Southern family, regales her children frequently with tales of her idyllic youth and the scores of suitors who once pursued her.
