Actor Needed for THE LOMAN FAMILY PICNIC at Middletown Lyric Theatre

MLT_logoMiddletown Lyric Theatre is in need of two male actors for THE LOMAN FAMILY PICNIC by Donald Margulies.

Herbie Loman (mid to upper 30s or at least look like you can pull that age off) – a lighting fixtures salesman who is chronically overworked and underpaid.

Rehearsals begin May 6th.  Production is June 7, 8, 14 & 15

Contact Charley at cshafor@middletownlyric.org  or 513-425-7140 to schedule an audition

Synopsis: The home of a middle-class Jewish family struggling to put up a good front even though continually short of cash. The father, Herbie, who sells lighting fixtures, is chronically overworked and underpaid; his wife, Doris, tells herself (and whomever may be listening) that she loves her life—even though, as the play begins, she is shredding her wedding dress to make a Halloween costume; their older son, Stewie, eagerly awaits his bar mitzvah with an eye less on its religious aspects than on the potential loot to be gained in gifts; and the youngest son, Mitchell, is absorbed in writing a musical version of Death of a Salesman (entitled Willy!) for his class at school. While they all strive to present an appearance of contentment and closeness, the family is beset by underlying tensions which burst forth when Herbie seizes his son’s bar mitzvah money and, after an unseemly confrontation with everyone about how the bills for the celebration should be paid.

Put on Your Deerstalker Cap and Get Ready For Falcon’s BASKERVILLE!

FT_Baskerville logoHolmes and Watson have never been so much fun

Falcon Theatre will close out its 2018-19 season with Ken Ludwig’s affectionate and murderously funny homage to the world’s favorite fictional detective, BASKERVILLE: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. The production opens May 3, 2019.

If you’re a Holmes & Watson aficionado, you certainly know the story of Arthur Conan Doyle’s best-known novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles. A mysterious demon hound from hell has tormented the Baskerville family for generations. Multiple deaths have been blamed on the devil dog through the years. With the latest death of a Baskerville, it seems apparent that the hound has struck again. Or has it? Our capped and caped hero steps in to solve the puzzle.

Now imagine the story transported to the stage where Holmes and Watson set about assembling the clues. But all the other roles (dozens of them, male and female) are played by an ensemble of three actors. Hilarious twists, turns, red herrings, lightning-fast costume changes, and antic fun follow.

Just think of The Complete Works of Williams Shakespeare (abridged), and you’ve got the general idea.

Falcon Theatre’s production is directed by Derek Snow and features Matt Dentino as Holmes, Alan Kootsher as Watson, as well as Nick DeNuzio, Dan Robertson, and Jordan Trovillion in the ensemble roles.

Performances are at 8 PM on May 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18, 2019. Ticket prices are $25 for adults and $15 for students with ID. Patrons enjoy a $5 discount for Thursday performances. Visit falcontheater.net for tickets.

CRIMES OF THE HEART Runs May 2-5

GHCT_Crimes of the Heart logoCRIMES OF THE HEART
Greater Hamilton Civic Theatre
May 2-5
Miami University Hamilton Parrish Auditorium

Directed by Rhonda Lucas
Produced by Brett Sandlin

Cast: Brandie Gill as Lenny Magrath, Hannah Brown as Meg Magrath, Katherine White as Babe Magrath, Leah Perry as Chick Boyle, Sam Downs as Barnette Lloyd & Scott Christian as Doc Porter

The scene is Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital. Lenny, the oldest sister, is unmarried at thirty and facing diminishing marital prospects; Meg, the middle sister, who quickly outgrew Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband in the stomach. Their troubles, grave and yet, somehow, hilarious, are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick, and by the awkward young lawyer who tries to keep Babe out of jail while helpless not to fall in love with her. In the end the play is the story of how its young characters escape the past to seize the future—but the telling is so true and touching and consistently hilarious that it will linger in the mind long after the curtain has descended.
