CUTTING UP on Oct. 9

CPI_logoCUTTING UP
Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative
Oct. 9
Aronoff Center Fifth Third Bank Theatre [Downtown]

Written by Jon Singer

Barbers used to offer some medical services, so maybe it’s just turnabout that playwright Jon Singer, MD (Waitlisted) uses a barber shop in a changing neighborhood as the setting for Cutting Up, his latest Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative staged reading.  Dom the barber’s clientele arrives straight out of a Great Gildersleeve-era (Google it, Youngsters) episode.  But after some lively sitcom-style dialogue, a dark deed ensues, and it becomes clear that the customers and their way of life have come under siege as diversity strikes their Grant Wood locale.

Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative (CPI) is a grassroots, non-profit arts organization of Tri-State playwrights, directors, actors, and theater supporters dedicated to developing new plays written by local playwrights. CPI strives to provide a forum for playwrights to explore the possibilities contained within their work by providing a community of playwrights within which individual initiative can seek its fullest expression.
