MOON OVER BUFFALO Rises at the Arts Center at Dunham

CINCINNATI, OH – September 14, 2017 — The hilarious MOON OVER BUFFALO by Ken Ludwig and directed by Allen Lindsey and Don Frimming rises to kick off Sunset Players’ 38th season at the Arts Center at Dunham.

The play centers on fading 1950s stars George and Charlotte Hay who learn they might have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to see their matinee show and might cast them in his next movie. Unfortunately, everything goes wrong with a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hysterical uncertainty about which play they’re performing caused by Charlotte’s old stage-manager mother who hates George.

The cast includes:

Performance dates are September 22, 23, 29, 30, October 1, 5, 6 and 7 at the Arts Center at Dunham, 1945 Dunham Way, Cincinnati, OH 45238. All shows are at 8PM, except Thursday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 3 PM.

Tickets are $14 general admission or $12 for seniors, students or groups of 10 or more and can be purchased online at the Sunset Players website (www.sunsetplayers.org) or at the door. Tickets can also be reserved by calling 513-588-4988.

Sunset Players, Inc. is a community theater group located on the west side of Cincinnati. Founded in 1979, the group performs at the Arts Center at Dunham and has produced more than 120 plays. Its mission is to bring a smile, and its plays include comedies, farces, dramatic comedies and musical comedies—as long as there is some “comedy” in the performance somewhere. In 1963, Joanne, Kathy, and Mary are aggressively vivacious cheerleaders. Five years later in their college sorority house, they are confronting their futures with nervous jauntiness. In 1974, they reunite briefly in New York. Their lives have diverged and their friendship, which once thrived on assumption as well coordinated as sweater sets, is strained and ambiguous. Old time banter rings false. Their attempts at honest conversation only show they can no longer afford to have very much in common.
Rated PG-13 for some situational humor and strong adult language.

CCM Opens 150th Anniversary Mainstage Series with HAMLET

CCM kicks off its 2017-2018 Mainstage Series with a preview performance of William Shakespeare’s HAMLET at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, in Patricia Corbett Theater. Set in the roaring 1920s, Hamlet plunges audiences into the madness of family disillusionment, lost romance, betrayal, murder, suicide and the existential question of what it means to be human.

HAMLET director Susan Felder explores the Bard’s original script to find universal themes and struggles that have remained throughout history. To capture this, Felder’s production is set in a more contemporary time that echoes the chaotic atmosphere of Shakespeare’s Denmark.

“In HAMLET, we see a war-weary nation, hastily seeking the ‘return to joy’ after the death of its beloved King,” says Felder, CCM Professor of Acting and Movement. “They never see the rapidly approaching collapse of their kingdom. So, what better time than the roaring ’20s? I can never see clips from that time without thinking how vehemently celebratory they are as they dance toward the crash and collapse at the end of that decade.”

CCM’s production distills the play’s epic questions into something familiar – shifting friends, lost love, the death of a father — and lifts the characters from the page to the stage.

“It’s exciting to me that we have a Hamlet and friends who are still in college and on the brink of taking life by the horns — as Hamlet is,” Felder says. “The cast is wildly excited.  We’re getting to dig deeply into this play to see where we as real people meet these characters as real people.”

Felder makes her Mainstage directorial debut with HAMLET. She is thrilled to work with student cast and creative teams who exhibit the same level of commitment that she encountered while working in professional theatre.

“They really understand their role in telling a story — in telling this story — and every decision is designed toward illuminating something bigger about the play,” she says. “This play has set them on fire.”

Tickets to HAMLET are $27-31 for adults, $17-20 for non-UC students and $15-18 for UC students with a valid ID. Tickets to the Sept. 27 preview performance are just $15.

Student rush tickets will be sold one hour before each performance to non-UC students for $12 or $15, based on availability. UC students can receive one free student rush ticket with a valid ID, based on availability.

Customizable subscription packages are also available for CCM’s 2017-18 Mainstage Series.

CAA Announces Four Additional 2017-18 Season Shows

CINCINNATI, OH – The Cincinnati Arts Association (CAA) is pleased to announce the addition of four shows to its 2017-18 Season at the Aronoff Center and the newly-renovated Music Hall.  From The Beatles to Chinese acrobats, from a hilarious musical about “the change” to the beauty of contemporary dance, these added shows are certain to continue CAA’s long-standing mission of presenting an eclectic mix of alternative entertainment choices to Cincinnati’s diverse audiences.
