nku_yes-festival-logoHIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY – Northern Kentucky University | School of the Arts | Program of Theatre and Dance has selected the two plays that will receive their world-premiere productions this April in the 18th Biennial YEAR END SERIES (Y.E.S.) FESTIVAL. Performances will take place in the Corbett and Stauss Theatres in the Fine Arts Center.

UNFROZEN
By Mark Eisman
Directed by Mike King
Corbett Theatre

Michelle has inherited none of her figure skating family’s talent on the ice. When her place in the household is taken over by her mother’s star pupil, she is sent on the journey of a lifetime. With the help of her makeshift family and some chilly dreams, Michelle finds her gift and finally has a chance to go for the gold. An ice princess, a team of competitive Latin students, and a talking penguin collide in the world premiere of this oddball comedy from playwright Mark Eisman. Eisman returns to the Y.E.S. FESTIVAL, having received a production of his play A PASSION FOR BRANDY in 2001.

HUMAN SERVICES
By Tom Baum
Directed by Michael Hatton
Stauss Theatre

A run-in with the paparazzi lands pop-star Kelsey in a halfway house for recovering addicts and recently discharged psychotics. At Aspiration House, Kelsey clashes with those in charge and forms unique bonds with her fellow residents. In an effort to keep a careful watch on Kelsey, her co-dependent mother-turned-manager monitors her every move and keeps the paparazzi close at hand. As things inside the house escalate, Kelsey’s true character is put to the test. Tom Baum’s biting satire of celebrity culture surprises with every twist and turn, all while tackling the poignant issues of mental health, homelessness, gender identity, and more.
