Auditions Announced for VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE at SSCC Theatre

SSCC_logoSSCC Theatre is pleased to announce their upcoming auditions for the spring production of VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE by Christopher Durang

Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share a home in Bucks County, PA, where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha.

Auditions, open to community members and students, will be held on Friday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m. in The Edward K. Daniels Auditorium at the Central Campus of Southern State Community College, in Hillsboro, OH. Those interested in auditioning should prepare and memorize a comedic one to two-minute monologue. Those interested on working in available crew positions will be asked to complete an interview the night of auditions. If you’re interested in auditioning, but unavailable to attend the audition date, please contact Rainee Angles to schedule an alternate audition date prior to May 13.

VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE, directed by Rainee Angles and Benjamin Gullett, will be performed July 22 – 24.

Student Art Show | April 30 – May 8 | Aronoff Center – Fifth Third Bank Theater

STUDENT ART SHOW
Local Students Display “Day at the Park” Artwork

April 30 – May 8, 2016
Aronoff Center – Fifth Third Bank Theater

CAACincinnati, OH – How do the children of Greater Cincinnati see and interpret the world around them? The Cincinnati Arts Association (CAA) explores this question through its annual Student Art Show, which exhibits artwork by local students. This year’s theme is “Day at the Park.” The exhibition will be on display in the Aronoff Center’s Fifth Third Bank Theater (7th & Main Streets, downtown Cincinnati) from Saturday, April 30 – Sunday, May 8, 2016. Exhibition hours are Friday, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM; Saturday, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM; and Sunday 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

The Student Art Show is free and open to the public.

Representing students from grades K – 8, the diverse collection of two-dimensional artwork will include mediums from pencil drawings to printmaking to textiles. Now in its 14th year, the Student Art Show is organized and presented annually by CAA’s Department of Education & Community Relations, with the assistance of the Weston Art Gallery.

“CAA is excited to continue to present the Student Art Show annually. Every year students create a unique interpretation of the theme,” says Kathleen Riemenschneider, CAA’s Assistant Director of Education & Community Relations. “The program has been a wonderful opportunity for students to creatively express and share their views with their friends, family, and the public.”

The 2016 Student Art Show has 120 entries. Student artwork from the following schools will be on display: Berry Intermediate (Lebanon, OH), Children’s Meeting House (Loveland, OH), Clinton-Massie Middle School (Clarksville, OH), Delshire Elementary (Delhi, OH), Eastern Junior High School (Sardinia/Winchester, OH), Guardian Angels (Mt. Washington, OH), JF Dulles Elementary (Bridgetown, OH), Mariemont Elementary (Mariemont, OH), Mariemont Junior High School (Mariemont/Fairfax/Terrace Park, OH), Mercy Montessori Center (Walnut Hills, OH), Montgomery Elementary (Montgomery, OH), New Miami Elementary (New Miami, OH), Newport Intermediate (Newport, KY), Newport Primary (Newport, KY), Oakdale Elementary (Bridgetown, OH), Our Lady of the Victory School (Oak Hills/Delhi, OH), Our Lady of the Visitation School (Bridgetown, OH), Riverside Academy (West Side, OH), Springer School and Center (Hyde Park, OH), Springmyer Elementary (Green Township, OH), St. Francis de Sales School (East Walnut Hills, OH), St. Ignatius School (Montfort Heights, OH), St. John the Baptist School (Hamilton, OH), Terrace Park Elementary (Terrace Park, OH), and Wilmington Middle School (Wilmington City, OH).

Daniel Park Presents YOU ARE THE HERO at Cincy Fringe

DANIEL PARK PRESENTS
YOU ARE THE HERO
A SPECIAL EVENT AS PART OF THE CINCY FRINGE FESTIVAL

CFF_You Are the Hero logo(CINCINNATI, OH) — As a special event in the 2016 Cincy Fringe Festival, Know Theatre of Cincinnati will host Daniel Park’s inventive performance event, YOU ARE THE HERO.

One part Legend of Zelda, one part theatre, YOU ARE THE HERO is your chance to save the world from Evil! Fresh off performances in New York and the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, this adventure hands the controls (and Starburst) to you. You’ll have to be brave, powerful, and wise to bring the story to a victorious end. But be careful, Game Over does exist.

CFF_You Are the Hero1YOU ARE THE HERO was conceived in 2014 by the show’s current performer and writer, Daniel Park. On his inspiration for the project, Park says, “I created the show because I noticed in myself, as well as in others, an unreasonable fear of doing what would make us happy.” The first round of development took place during Daniel’s time as a member of the Orchard Project, which has supported the likes of Dog and Pony DC, Taylor Mac, and the Rude Mechanicals.

CFF_You Are the Hero2One of the show’s most unique qualities is that, like a videogame, the audience can get Game Over. Park, who happens to work at a room escape game, says of the piece, “It exists to give audiences a way to concretely experience Happiness, Empowerment, and Action. And not just in the fictional world created inside of the show. If the players don’t act, the world will end, and the show is over. But, on the contrary, if they discover the Courage, Wisdom, and Power that they already have, they can save the world!” Approximately 40% of audiences have gotten game over.

“First, he’ll give you a Starburst, then he’ll invite you to unwrap it with him, then he’ll give you the chance to save the world.” ~Christopher Munden for PHINDIE

“It involves Zelda and Coffee. If that doesn’t make a lot of sense, don’t worry. That’s why you should check out the almost too strange to describe YOU ARE THE HERO at this year’s FringeArts Festival.” ~ Bryan Butler for Philly Mag

ABOUT DANIEL
Daniel Park is a theatre and performance artist whose work has been performed internationally. His recent pieces explore the middle ground between games and theatre. In addition to YOU ARE THE HERO his body of work includes The Diamond Eye Collective: a game/theatre experience that took over Temple University’s library, turning the players into secret agents overthrowing a nefarious organization in the stacks, and We Need to Talk: an awkward, hilarious, and deeply human improvised performance that could best be described as a game of Dungeons and Dragons mashed up with your last relationship.

TICKET INFORMATION
Single ticket sales and pass reservations for YOU ARE THE HERO won’t be available until Wednesday, May 18th when the full schedule is released. For more information visit http://www.cincyfringe.com/tickets/.
