CPI Announces Auditions for ELEGY

CPI_logoELEGY by Herb DuVal
CINCINNATI PLAYWRIGHTS INITIATIVE’S (CPI)
BEST OF “NEW VOICES”

ELEGY is the story of a young man, Norman, who resists the urgings of his closest friend and his girlfriend to leave home to make his way in the world during America’s Great Depression. Norman feels strongly he must remain to care for his parents. Whether it’s fear of the unknown that might lie ahead or sense of duty, he chooses to stay, and thus becomes a caretaker of a way of life that was fast disappearing. Ten vivid characters tell us about a time and place in our lives and give us a lot to root for in the American spirit.

PRODUCTION DATES: October 17-19, 2012 (Aronoff Center)
( This is a fully staged production! )
Director, Regina Pugh

Date of Auditions:

  • Sunday, July 7, 2013 , 2 PM – 4 PM
  • Monday, July 8, 2013 , 6:00 PM – 8 PM

Location of Auditions: 1406 Sycamore (Downtown) 45202

CHARACTERS

  • NORMAN CANTRELL . . . . . . . SON, AGE 22, has a boy-next-door quality. Shy, but decisive when his back is to the wall. He, more than anyone else, can see how they all fit into their complex society.
  • JESSE LEE HOPPER . . . . . . . NEIGHBOR, AGE 22, very attractive and up to date. She loves Norman, but is not bound by convention. Not afraid to tell the truth.
  • CARTER . . . . . . . . . . . AGE 25, a go-getter. Carter will not end up in the South. He is made for a wider world. Shouldn’t be a handsome leading man, looking like an obviously better choice for Jesse Lee. His energy is the important quality.
  • TT – TERRENCE TYRONE RILEY. . . . AGE 40, a bull of a man. Generous and understanding, but imperious and blind to the needs of those closest to him.

Actors should be prepared to do a cold reading from the script.

Please bring Headshot and Résumé to audition or forward to reginapugh@hotmail.com
