Stagecrafters Announces 2012-2013 Season Auditions

Auditions for the 2012 – 2013 Stagecrafters season will be held on June 27 & 28 from 7:30-9:30pm  at the Sharonville Fine Arts Center, 11165 Reading Road in Sharonville. Some parking is available on either side of the building or in the municipal lot on Walnut Street.

Stagecrafters first production of the 2012-2013 season will now be “Death Defying Acts” which is three one acts by David Mamet, Elaine May and Woody Allen. Directed by Cynthia Emmer.

Production dates are October 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13, 2012.

This long-running Off Broadway hit features the work of three gifted playwrights. David Mamet’s AN INTERVIEW is an oblique, mystifying interrogation. A sleazy lawyer is forced to answer difficult questions and to admit the truth about his life and
career. In HOTLINE by Elaine May, a neurotic woman with enough urban angst to fill a neighborhood calls a suicide crisis hotline late one night. The counselor who gets the call is overwhelmed – it is his first night on the job. In Woody Allen’s CENTRAL PARK WEST, a well-to-do psychiatrist has just discovered that her best friend is having an affair with her husband. She has invited the friend over for a confrontation after getting thoroughly soused. Meanwhile, the husband is about to run off with a college student.

Cast requirements are 6 – 8 men able to play ages 20s to 60s and 4-5 women able to play ages20 to 50s/60s.

There will be cold readings from the scripts. You may audition for more than one show.

…IN THE TIME OF OLD AGE is a comedy by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists award-winning Canadian playwright Gord Carruth and is directed by Dee Dunn. Production dates are March 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10, 2013.

Two elderly gentlemen, a New Yorker and his friend, an Irish World War II veteran, both with little time left to live, unexpectedly come into a fortune. With their new status and the help of a beautiful lawyer they have some fun pulling off a brilliant sting on a bank manager of questionable integrity and morality, all to the benefit of elderly people.

Cast requirements – 2 men able to play late 70s, 1 man able to play mid 50s, 1 man able to play late 30s to early 40s, 1 woman able to play late 60s, 1 woman able to play mid 30s

Characters –

  • Reuben Ludlow, a 78-year-old Jewish widower
  • Isolde Trampler – Reuben’s cleaning lady, German
  • Tony Manucci – Reuben’s bookie, Italian
  • Mickey Flaherty – 80-year-old Irish American
  • Anna Collins – a lawyer, very good looking
  • Clarence Stickley – a bank manager

ELEEMOSYNARY by Lee Blessing will be directed by Michael L. Morehead. Production dates are May 11. 12. 17, 18 and 19, 2013.

Staged with utmost simplicity, using platforms and a few props, the play probes into the delicate relationship of three singular women: the grandmother, Dorothea, who has sought to assert her independence through strong-willed eccentricity; her brilliant daughter, Artie (Artemis), who has fled the stifling domination of her mother; and Artie’s daughter, Echo, a child of exceptional intellect – and sensitivity– whom Artie has abandoned to an upbringing by Dorothea. As the play begins, Dorothea has suffered a stroke, and while Echo has reestablished contact with her mother, it is only through extended telephone conversations, during which real issues are skirted and their talk is mostly about the precocious Echo’s single-minded domination of a national spelling contest. But in the end, after Dorothea’s death, both Artie and Echo come to accept their mutual need and summon the courage to try, at last, to build a life together – despite the risks and terrors that this holds for both of them after so many years of alienation and estrangement.

Cast requirements – 1 woman able to play 50s – 60s, 1 woman able to play 30s and 1 teenage girl.

Characters –

  • Dorothea – a woman of some means
  • Artie – her daughter
  • Echo – her granddaughter
