EDGAR: A MESMERIC PASSAGE INTO THE LIFE OF EDGAR ALLEN POE
Presented by Springfield StageWorks
Sept. 9-10
Springfield

Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most influential and mysterious characters in literature. His work and the enigma of his life have captivated a wide range of audiences. His most popular works have been showcased in countless television shows & parodies, films, stage productions, and school auditoriums.

Imagine the mystery revealed; seeing Poe for not only his work and his fame, but for who he really was. This production is a multi-faceted adventure. Transforming the stage from the very beginning with a multimedia presentation of Poe from birth to his final day; then that very presentation transforms into live action as POE himself takes the stage.

WINNER! 2010 PULITZER PRIZE
WINNER! 2009 TONY AWARD FOR BEST SCORE

The Goodmans seem like a perfect family. The only problem is that sometimes mom seems, well…a little too happy. Fresh from a remarkable Broadway run comes one of the most lauded musicals of the new century! With provocative lyrics and an electrifying score that includes more than 30 original songs, this thrilling, emotional powerhouse of a musical is a story about the stop/start life of a bipolar mother as she rides the sharp edge between coping and insanity.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE runs Sept. 7-25

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE
Presented by the Showboat Majestic
Sept. 7-25
Downtown

CityBeat review | BTC recommended |

This is a hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The show’s Tony Award winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. The hysterical tunes include: “My Friend, The Dictionary,” “I’m Not That Smart” and “I Speak Six Languages.”

A SECOND HELPING: THE CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES SEQUEL
Presented by La Comedia Dinner Theatre
Sept. 1 to Oct. 30
Springboro

Dayton Examiner review |

CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES was one of our most popular shows in 2010 and the ladies of East Cornucopia Lutheran Church of the Prairie are back to serve up more of their hilarious antics and down-to-earth charm. It’s 1969 – the world is changing and the ladies of the church are preparing for changes of their own below the House of God.

You will see them serve the high school students at the Luther League Banquet, a church sponsored Missionary Night, and the rise and fall of a Vikings’ Super Bowl Sunday.

You’ll laugh until your side-dish hurts!
