Directors Wanted for 2016-2017 Season at Village Players

VP_logoVillage Players — one of Greater Cincinnati’s oldest community theatres — is looking for directors for its 2016-2017 season. A typical season comprises three shows, six performances each, as well as a children’s production, performed by children, adults, or a combination.

Those interested in directing for Village Players should contact the vice chair no later than noon, Dec. 8.

Potential directors are asked to submit three shows for production consideration and should be prepared to discuss how each would fit with the group’s goals and audience considerations, summarized below.

Potential directors will present their selections via 15-minute interviews on Tuesday evening, Dec. 8, beginning at 8 pm at 8 N. Ft. Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, Kentucky.

Village Players Goals

  • produce quality theatre
  • increase membership and engagement
  • create community, within the group and beyond

Audience Considerations

  • prefers comedies, warm moments and energetic productions
  • responds best to familiar titles and community connections
  • expects a very high production quality for plays outside their comfort zone

This family-friendly fable introduces us to Fox — clever and sly, but likable — who befriends Justi, a simple woodsman. Fox persuades the king that Justi is wealthy and searching for a princess to marry. These lies, of course, bring trouble, conflict and humor. Justi eventually proves his worth, however, and takes his place as the story’s hero.

September 18, 19, 20, 24, 25 & 26

A sinister con man, Roat, and two ex-convicts, Mike and Carlino, are about to meet their match. They have traced the location of a mysterious doll, which they are much interested in, to the Greenwich Village apartment of Sam Hendrix and his blind wife, Susy. Sam had apparently been persuaded by a strange woman to transport the doll across the Canadian border, not knowing that sewn inside were several grams of heroin. When the woman is murdered the situation becomes more urgent. The con man and his ex-convicts, through a cleverly constructed deception, convince Susy that the police have implicated Sam in the woman’s murder, and the doll, which she believes is the key to his innocence, is evidence. She refuses to reveal its location, and with the help of a young neighbor, figures out she is the victim of a bizarre charade. But when Roat kills his associates, a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues between the two. Susy knows the only way to play fair is by her rules, so when darkness falls she turns off all the lights leaving both of them to maneuver in the dark until the game ends.
