Kentucky High School Theatre Festival on Oct. 1

kta_logoThe Kentucky Theatre Association (KTA) is initiating a new procedure for their State High School Theatre Festival. This year the 5 Regions throughout the State will each hold its own Qualifying Regional Festival, to identify those theatres who will compete at the Annual State Theatre Conference. A record number of high schools have registered to participate in the festival this year, fulfilling one of KTA’s initial goals – growth in participation statewide.

The inaugural festival will take place in the North Region on Saturday, October 1, 2016, and will be held at Scott High School, in Taylor Mill, KY. Three schools will be presenting a show in competition: Scott H.S., Simon Kenton H.S., and Bracken Co. H.S. The performances will begin at 1:00 pm, and wrap up with the presentation of awards around 4:30 pm. The top-performing school will be invited to represent the North Region at the State Festival on Nov. 11-12, at the University of Kentucky’s Guignol Theatre, Lexington.

The festival is open to the public; admission is $5.00 at the door the day of the festival. The school is located off I-275 (exit 79), south on Pride Parkway – approx. 2 miles on the right.

Everyone is welcome. Come for the shows, and help support our students and the fine arts in our schools.

Wayne Kirsch
KTA Board Member, North Rep.
