FROM THE CREATORS OF THE FAMOUS HAYDELL SISTERS
OVER-THE-RHINE-May 31-June 11, 2016: Among the boundary-pushing work set to take the stage this year is SHEnatra-a new musical satire from comedy duo Bowman and Yarborough, creators of last year’s sensational hit The Famous Haydell Sisters Comeback Tour (featuring Sadie Bowman of Calculus: The Musical! and Channel Fringe HardHitting Action News Update, and longtime improvisor/comedian Donna Kay Yarborough). This year the Portland, OR comic team turns their satirical wit and scathing lyrical play toward an entirely different genre of American music, while examining modern gender dynamics through the eyes of two midcentury male icons.
Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin are dead (spoiler!) and in a very particular purgatory-trapped in women’s bodies in atonement for the sexist transgressions they perpetuated against all the “broads” during their lifetime. They explore gender double-standards and the consequences of their freewheeling masculinity through hilarious parodies of classic standards like “You Make Me Feel So Dumb,” “The Girl with Emphysema,” “All of The Chicks That I Screwed” and many more. Each performance has a potentially different outcome, as the pair is set to face the music and let the audience decide their eternal fate in this “judgement cabaret.”
Joined by “One-Man Nelson Riddle Orchestra” Nate Bulter of Fresno, CA on the keyboard, Bowman and Yarborough were a “Critic’s Pick” in Cincinnati CityBeat last year with The Famous Haydell Sisters Comeback Tour . Upon premiering SHEnatra! at the Rogue Festival in Fresno, CA in March, reviewers acclaimed it as “another triumph. Razorsharp…blisteringly funny…a mustsee” (Donald Munro, Fresno Bee).
