Downtown Cincinnati at/near The Taft Theatre

Person 1: Greets buses as they arrive for student drop off and assigns a number to each bus. Works with person collecting buses on Merhing Way and organizes for buses to return for student pick up.

Person 2: Takes first bus to Mehring Way and waits till all buses arrive. Directs buses back to The Taft Theatre for student pick up after performances.

Full-Time Scenic Carpenter Sought by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati

Position Overview:

The ideal scenic carpenter is a skilled carpenter with knowledge of industry standard theatrical woodworking techniques. The scenic carpenter can read and interpret construction drawings and decide, with help from the Scene Shop Manager, how to safely utilize the correct tools and techniques to complete the task. The scenic carpenter is knowledgeable with basic stationary and portable power tools, as well as basic hand tools.

The scenic carpenter is self-motivated, able to work independently to complete tasks assigned to them safely and quickly without constant and direct oversight. The scenic carpenter is able to work nights and weekends as needed to ensure the project is completed on time.

The scenic carpenter is able to work with other members of the company and other members of the community. The scenic carpenter is willing and eager to assist other departments to help fulfill the goals of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in the Scene Shop fabricating scenery for each production under the direction of the Technical Director.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the safe operation of power tools, scenic carpentry and theatrical rigging.
  • Prep & load/unload trucks as needed.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work environment
  • Report to the Scene Shop Manager with any questions or issues throughout the build
  • Assist other departments when necessary
  • Provide company with support for special events or projects as needed

Ideal Knowledge/Skills: 

  • BA or equivalent in Theatre, or two years’ experience in scenic construction, or equivalent construction experience
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and able to lift/carry 50lbs
  • Proficiency with power tools, including, but not limited to: table saw, miter saw, jig saw, pneumatic staplers, hand routers, powered sanders
  • Knowledge/experience in MIG welding, scenic painting, tool maintenance and theatrical rigging a plus
  • Experience with automation, theatrical lighting and/or sound systems a plus
  • Able to read and interpret construction draftings
  • Self-motivated, positive, and passionate individual who loves the mission of TCT and can work with a team or independently with a safety-first mentality.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Valid driver’s license

Compensation/Benefits/Employment Details

  • Annual Salary Range: $35,000-40,000
  • Ideal Start date: Early February, 2022
  • Housing is not provided.
  • Health, vision, and dental benefits available, partially subsidized by employer contributions, after a waiting period.

Cincinnati – The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s 21-22 MainStage Season continues with ROALD DAHL’S MATILDA THE MUSICAL JR. at the Taft Theatre February 5-14, 2021. Tickets are on sale now.

The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati asks audiences to join with us in providing the safest space possible for patrons big and small, cast, crew, volunteers, and staff. The following protocol will be in place for our 21-22 MainStage season:

  1. Masks are required for ALL ticketholders age 2+, regardless of vaccination status.
  2. All patrons ages 12+ must provide proof of *full COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result administered within 72 hours of show start time. A negative rapid antigen test administered within 24 hours or proof of natural immunity via antibodies will also be accepted — that test would need to have occurred within six months from the date of the show you are attending. Self-reported negative test results that are not from a test provider, a laboratory, or a health care provider cannot be accepted. This rule applies to teachers and chaperones during our daytime school performances as well as at all public shows.
    • To enter the theater, please bring a **photo ID and one of the following:
      • Original vaccine card or test result
      • Photograph or copy of vaccine card or test result
      • Photograph of vaccine card or test result stored on your electronic device
      • *Fully vaccinated means the performance you attend is at least 14 days after your final vaccine dose.
      • **Please note: photo IDs are not required for children.
      • Guests who need a reasonable mask accommodation for medical reasons must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to entering the theater regardless of vaccination status. A negative rapid antigen test administered within 24 hours will also be accepted.

School performances of ROALD DAHL’S MATILDA THE MUSICAL JR. will be held February 8-11 and 14, 2022, during the daytime hours.

The sensory-friendly performance of ROALD DAHL’S MATILDA THE MUSICAL JR. on February 9 at 1 PM is intended for individuals on the autism spectrum, as well as children (and adults) with other special needs who may benefit.  To create a sensory-friendly performance, the show is performed in a welcoming, supportive environment for those with sensory challenges.  Slight adjustments to lighting and sound are made and effects such as fog, strobes, and lights that extend into the audience are minimalized.  A downloadable Social Narrative (in Word format) is made available on the TCT website one week before the performance.  At the theater, TCT provides an area staffed by specialists in the field where patrons can take a break from the performance if necessary, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has trained staff on hand.
