With a title like that, who needs a plot description!?!?
All you need to know, is that Trevor and Jessie used to date, but she ran off after they broke up with a punk rock band, leaving her sister Jamie pregnant and alone with Mark, her trailer park baby daddy, with nothing but their old high school ska band. Well, Jessie’s headed back to Newark to play a hometown concert with her new girlfriend and their world famous band, she just doesn’t know that her manager has booked her ex’s high school band to open for them. What could go wrong?

A brand new musical inspired by the themes and dialogue of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, RUDE NIGHTS AT THE MIDLAND is a frank and honest look at the weight you carry as you come back home: Small town, Midwest USA, where everyone is broke as hell and dumb as sin. What’s more (ska)punk than that?

Auditions Announced for TWELFTH NIGHT and TAMING OF THE SHREW Musical at Southbank Shakespeare

Southbank Shakespeare is pleased to announce auditions for our upcoming sixth summer season!

Auditions will take place at Thomas More University March 28-29 from 11am – 6pm.

TWELFTH NIGHT (Performances June 18-21, outdoors at the TMU Observatory Lawn): Actors should prepare one Shakespeare monologue in comedic style. Video auditions will be accepted through March 27th. (The role of Maria has been precast. All other roles are open.)

TAMING OF THE SHREW Musical (Performances July 16-19 in the TMU Theatre): Actors should prepare one of the script sides (found in the Google Drive linked below). Actors who would like to be considered for singing roles should prepare a 32 bar cut of a popular Ska or Pop-Punk song representing their vocal range.

We are also looking for instrumentalists, as our original Ska-Punk musical adaptation of Taming of the Shrew is entirely performed vocally and instrumentally by actors live on stage. Because of this, we are asking actors and musicians to record video submissions of themselves playing a song in the style of the show. (Ex: Paramore and Reel Big Fish) We are looking for the following instruments: guitar, bass, drum kit, trumpet, trombone, saxophone.

If you have any questions, please email Lauren Davidson (Stage Manager) at davidsonle3@gmail.com or Phillip Webster (Artistic Director) at 9tenor11@gmail.com

THE TRAGEDIE OF MACBETH Runs July 10-13

THE TRAGEDIE OF MACBETH: The Blessed Feast of Holinshed
Southbank Shakespeare
July 10-13
Thomas More University Observatory Lawn [Crestview Hills]

Directed by Timothy Andrew Leonard

Cast: David Goble as Macbeth & Elizabeth Durham as Lady Macbeth
Dutiful Chorus: Parker Culp, Sophia DiPuccio, Natalie Hayslett, Jun Holubeck, Ashley Matt, Joe Mitchell, Regan Utrup & Anna Verderber

FREE Performance – Estimated to have been written and first performed in 1606, The Scottish Play has been a centerpiece of Shakespeare’s canon since its inception. The tale of witchcraft, prophecy, and bloody ambition has fueled countless ghost stories over the years, and is sure to fill countless more as years continue to fold over and over. Join us this summer as we travel thousands of years divorced from Shakespeare’s pen, and enter an age when the context dividing secular and religious scripture has been completely forgotten. Witness the small nomadic tribe pass through our land as they make their yearly sacrifice to ensure successful migration to more fertile lands, and pray to their Gods for a bountiful harvest.
