The Passing of Jonn Baca

-From NKU SOTA Theatre & Dance Facebook page

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the unexpected passing of colleague, teacher, mentor, and friend, Jonn Baca, on Friday. Known affectionately as “Baca,” he has been an integral part of the NKU and SOTA community for the past 17 years, teaching stage combat courses and choreographing fight scenes for countless productions, most recently Oklahoma.

John was a beacon of joy and merriment and a consummate professional in the world of stage combat. As a certified teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors, Baca inspired and guided a legacy of students, future instructors, actors, and colleagues in the art of stage combat. His work touched every venue in the Cincinnati region, highlighting exciting, yet safe physical stage work with combat professionals and novices alike. Thank you Jonn for your dedication and selfless commitment to quality and creativity at NKU.

His loss will be felt deeply by everyone he came in contact with over the years through teaching, fight choreography, and friendship.

Please keep his loved ones and each other in your thoughts and actions during this difficult time.
