NIXON’S NIXON runs March 15-17

NIXON’S NIXON
Presented by Middletown Lyric Theatre
March 15-17
Middletown

It is the night before President Nixon is to announce his resignation, and he has summoned Secretary of State Henry Kissinger to the Lincoln Sitting Room. Kissinger arrives, expecting to find his President preparing to resign but Nixon leads his Secretary of State on a journey through the high moments of his administration and Nixon’s past. The journey borders on the surreal as Nixon pressures Kissinger into reenacting crucial scenes. Meanwhile, Kissinger is subtly working to convince Nixon to step down so that he can pursue his geopolitical goals—and his own quest for historical glory—unencumbered by a weakened President. Contains Nixon’s “authentic” adult language.

Directed by Janet Powell

Cast: Les Landen as Henry Kissinger & Michael Schlotterbeck as Richard Nixon

  • Thu, March 15 at 7:30pm
  • Fri-Sat, March 16-17 at 8pm

GEE’S BEND runs Feb. 16-18

GEE’S BEND
Presented by Middletown Lyric Theatre
Feb. 16-18
Middletown

Gee’s Bend is the story of the Pettway women, quilters from the isolated community of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. Beginning in 1939, the play follows Alice, her daughters Sadie and Nella, and Sadie’s husband, Macon, through segregation, family strife, and the Civil Rights movement. Throughout their lives, the women’s extraordinary quilts provide a respite from the turmoil around them. In the last act of the play, it is the year 2000; the quilts have been “discovered” as folk art and have become very valuable. Sadie is pleased with the recognition, but she returns to Gee’s Bend and continues to quilt. Wilder’s play explores the resilience of the human spirit, especially as it is expressed in art.

Directed by Charley Shafor

Actor Needed for MLT’s NIXON’S NIXON

Middletown Lyric Theatre is looking for an actor to portray former President Richard M. Nixon for their March production of NIXON’S NIXON.

Directed by: Janet Powell

Synopsis: It is the night before President Nixon is to announce his resignation, and he has summoned Secretary of State Henry Kissinger to the Lincoln Sitting Room.

A Note about the Actor: Whether the actor’s physical appearance resembles Nixon is not particularly important. More importantly the two men should subtly evoke Nixon and Kissinger through voice and gesture. Please keep in mind that Nixon was 61 at the time of his resignation. The role of Henry Kissinger has already been cast.
