FOOTLOOSE the Musical
Music by Tom Snow, Lyrics by Dean Pitchford, Stage Adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, based on th eoriginal screenplay by Dean Pitchford, additional music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman.

One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory bursts onto the live stage with exhilarating results. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn’t prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin’ rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind. This show is a great showcase for actors, singers, dancers and is a star vehicle for a triple threat!

Callback auditions will take place later in the day on August 2, 2015

PRODUCTION DATES: November 27 &  28, 2015
Rehearsals will start mid-October

THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL
With Music and Lyrics by David Nehls and Book by Betsy Kelso, “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” began its journey as a series of staged readings and workshops, followed by a sold-out run at The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) in 2004, which led to the 2005 Off Broadway run produced by Jean Doumanian and Jeffrey Richards.

“There is a new tenant at Armadillo Acres – and she’s wreaking havoc all over Florida’s most exclusive trailer park.  When Pippi, the stripper on the run, comes between the agoraphobic Jeannie and her tollbooth collector husband Norbert – the storms begin to brew! This hilarious show is a great showcase for singers and actors with comedic timing.

Callback auditions will be announced at a later date

Production Dates: January 8, 9, 15 and 16 2016

Rehearsals will start Early December 2015

Performances will be held at the Mathile Theatre in the Schuster Center

The Wild Party

Book, Music, and Lyrics: Andrew Lippa

Adapted from a book-length poem written in and about the Roaring Twenties,The Wild Party tells the story of one wild evening in the Manhattan apartment shared by Queenie and Burrs, a vaudeville dancer and a vaudeville clown. In a relationship marked by vicious behavior and recklessness (mirroring the time in which they live), they decide to throw a party to end all parties. As the guests arrive, we meet an assortment of people living on the edge. Queenie and Burrs set out to make each other jealous, but Queenie begins to fall in love with her conquest named Mr. Black. After a long night of decadence, Burrs’ jealousy erupts and he comes to a violent end at Mr. Black’s hand. In the stark light of a new day, Queenie moves out into a brighter world, although not necessarily a brighter future, leaving the passed-out revelers in her wake. An award-winning score by Andrew Lippa provides excitement and drive for this tale of passions out of control. Capturing the sound of a bygone era with a nod to the present one, he makes us realize that moral decadence is not only limited to our past.

Callback auditions will be announced at a later date

Rehearsals will start early March

2015-2016 Season Announced by Dare to Defy Productions

D2D_logoDare to Defy Productions have announced their upcoming season.

Productions include:

July 24-25, 2015
ASSASSINS

Using a murderous carnival theme, Assassins will take you on an intense, sometimes comical, thought provoking journey into the deranged minds of assassins such as John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, John Hinckley, and many others. The music throughout the shows varies among different styles to represent the different eras of our ensemble of criminals.  By developing the characters of historic assassins out of the slim biographical information found in the daily news, Assassins prompts us to consider their motivation. “(Sondheim) confronts pain in order to cauterize the decay and heal the sicknesses which lurk at the core of our society”.

Sept. 4-5. 2015
INTO THE WOODS

The musical intertwines mainly the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales and follows them to explore the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from “Little Red Riding Hood”, “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “Rapunzel”, and “Cinderella”, as well as several others. The musical is tied together by an original story involving a childless baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family, their interaction with a witch who has placed a curse on them, and their interaction with other storybook characters during their journey.

Oct. 16-24, 2015
GODSPELL

Based on the Gospel of Matthew, the show stresses Jesus’ humility and compassion, reinforcing that he’s a hero for secular humanists as well as the pious. Whether you go for it depends not on your religious affiliation, but on your tolerance for the format; it can suggest a giddily earnest children’s program, with Jesus cast as the firm but likable teacher and his disciples as eager but often unruly students.

Nov. 27-28, 2015
FOOTLOOSE

Teenagers have lots of problems, but Footloose high schooler Ren McCormack really feels put upon. Ren’s dad has deserted the family and he and his mom Ethel are forced to move from that toddlin’ town of Chicago all the way to the nowheresville that is Bomont, described as “a small Midwestern town.” As well as teenage angst, Footloose, is all about fun and the carefree nature of being a teen, which of course is never fully appreciated at the time.

Jan. 22-30, 2016
THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL

The characters are just what you would think to see in this over stereotyped musical. You’ll meet Pippi, “the stripper on the run,” the Dr. Phil loving, agoraphobic, Jeannie, and Jeannie’s tollbooth collector husband, Norbert. Other characters include Lin, Pickles, Duke, and Betty. Other residents of Armadillo Acres that round out this wonderfully scored ensemble musical.

April 1-10, 2016
THE WILD PARTY

In the roaring 20’s and beautiful young Queenie cannot find a lover able to satisfy her desires – until she meets Burrs, a vaudevillian clown with a voracious appetite for women. The dark musical moves on to an exciting wild party that spins fatally out of control. The score is filled with a number of notable high spots like “Let’s Raise the Roof,” “The Juggernaut,” and “The Life of the Party.”

May 20-21, 2016
AMERICAN IDIOT

American Idiot follows the journey of three life long friends on different paths. Two of them leave the unsatisfying, yet safe, suburban life for the excitement of the Big City- and eventually the war torn Middle East. The third stays behind in their hometown with this pregnant girlfriend and an uncertain future. Featuring chart topping hits including “21 Guns,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday,” and title song “American Idiot,” the Tony Award winning show uses the music of the album to tell the story. Love and Loss, Addiction and redemption, life and death, and the endless pursuit of The American Dream, everyone can relate to this telling story.
