THE GAME’S AFOOT at CTC

CTC_logo

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY – The Commonwealth Theatre Company at Northern Kentucky University opens its 2014 Summer Dinner Theatre season.

THE GAME’S AFOOT by Ken Ludwig kicks off the summer running June 11 to June 29. It is December 1936 and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast-members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. Then it’s up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this glittering whodunit set during the Christmas holidays.

Among the cast of CTC newcomers and veterans are NKU faculty members Sandra Forman, Mike King, and Christine Jones. Current NKU student Jennifer Rhodenhiser and CCM Drama student Spencer House are making their CTC debuts. The cast is rounded out by Rodger Pille, Liz Comstock, and Mindy Heithaus.

THE LEGEND OF POCAHONTAS runs Aug. 2-5

THE LEGEND OF POCAHONTAS
Presented by The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati’s STAR Program and Commonwealth Theatre Company
Aug. 2-5
Highland Heights

This contemporary pop musical follows the classic story of Pocahontas and how she became who she was as an adult. The tale of Pocahontas is a well-known and frequently told one — but this remarkable story sticks closer to the historical reality of her life, rather than the embellished version created by some other filmmakers and storytellers. Pocahontas led a calm, peaceful life as a small girl, but when strangers arrive in her tribe’s native land and attempt to take over, her life course changes drastically. Follow the truthful account of the Algonquin Indians as they are invaded and taken over by Europeans. See how Pocahontas later grows into an intelligent woman and becomes the wife of John Rowe, as well as a diplomat between the Native Americans and European peoples. Experience the high contrast between the rural and peaceful settings of the Native American tribes and the loud and industrial settings of the European establishments. This production is geared toward children ages 8 and up. It runs approximately 120 minutes.

Directed by Roderick Justice
Music directed by Angela Powell-Walker
Choreographed by Sarah Peak

  • Thu-Fri, Aug. 2-3 at 8pm
