CPI Seeks Actors for A PAIN IN THE NECK in February

CPI_logoCincinnati Playwrights Initiative (CPI) is looking for volunteer actors for a staged reading of a new play at the Fifth-Third Bank Theater (Aronoff center).

TITLE: A Pain in the Neck

PLAYWRIGHT: Jack Lindy M.D.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS:
Dr. Maurice Schnellenkopfer, author of the poorly selling book “Better Bedside Manners,” is now a surgical patient with cancer. He enters a farcical hospital world where the only thing left to do is laugh . . ..

SHOW DATE: February 11, 2014 at 7:30

THEATER: Fifth-Third Bank Theater (Black Box).

CHARACTERS still needed:

  • RESIDENTS 1- Young man who is now working in a hospital at the feet of a great surgeon, he is, however, pretty puffed up with his title of MD and a great deal of self-importance.
  • RESIDENTS 2 – Young man who is now working in a hospital at the feet of a great surgeon, he is, however, pretty puffed up with his title of MD and a great deal of self-importance. 

INFORMATION:
We will not have a formal audition, but interested actors should send/attach their Acting Résumé and provide their headshot (JPG).

CPI Seeks Actors for TALES FROM ‘NAM

CPI_logoCincinnati Playwrights Initiative (CPI) is looking for volunteer actors for a staged reading of a new play at the Fifth-Third Bank Theater (Aronoff center).

TITLE: Tales from ‘Nam
PLAYWRIGHT: Irvon Clear
DIRECTOR: David Bezona

SHORT SYNOPSIS:
Four women (all wives of Vietnam era veterans) are attending a fishing tournament where their husbands are participants. The tournament is rained out and they end up sitting at card tables drinking beer. They eventually end up in the same room with four veterans (two husbands and two not). The women challenge the men to tell their war stories and it is guided with three questions: What is the funniest thing that happened to you? What is the worst thing that happened to you? And, what is the scariest thing that happened to you? A tale of heroism and sacrifice evolves and ends with a statement of what it means to be a veteran of a war.

SHOW DATE: January 14, 2014 at 7:30

  • FEMALE ROLE: A woman from Vietnam era – 60 plus
  • MALE ROLE: A woman from Vietnam era – 60 plus

CPI hosts Brian Isaac Phillips, the Producing Artistic Director of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.

“Cincinnati Shakespeare Co., Process, Submissions, Selections and more.”

Open discussion and Q&A will follow.

BRIAN ISAAC PHILLIPS is the Producing Artistic Director of Cincinnati Shakespeare Company for the last 3 years and Artistic Director for the last 10 years. He is also a member of Actor’s Equity Association and the Stage Director’s and Choreographer’s Society. Brian is originally from Pittsburgh, and a graduate of Morehead State University. In addition to the Shakespeare Company, he has worked for Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, The Children’s Theatre, Know Theatre of Cincinnati, as well as over 100 productions with CSC. He also has worked regionally at theatres in North Carolina, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Northern Ohio. On May 3, 2013, Brian was recognized by the City of Cincinnati for his decade of achievement and service at CSC by having that day named Brian Isaac Phillips Day.

If you go on Jefferson Ave, park your car near intersection with University Ave. (Free parking on Jefferson Ave. / fee at the Garage). Walk toward the campus. Turn left at the rotunda (circle) and go on Commons Way to the 1st building on the right French Hall. Enter the lobby and just follow the signs to room 2225.

Important Note: Unless you display a UC decal or Handicap tag, DO NOT park on any campus streets.
