Video Auditions Announced for Engagement Programs at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

Off the Grid and Outreach Tour

Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park is accepting video audition submissions from non-Equity actors for performance opportunities through our Off the Grid and Outreach Tour programs. These opportunities include virtual and site-specific, interactive theatrical experiences, and our fall school outreach tour production of The Wind in the Willows, which will be recorded and presented virtually.

These auditions are for non-Equity performers in the Greater Cincinnati area. Please, no calls or materials through mail.

Deadline to Submit Audition:
July 21, 2020

General Audition Material:
Please prepare two contrasting, contemporary monologues. The audition should be no longer than three minutes total. Videos, headshots and resumes should be submitted through this form.

Audition Process:
To be considered for any upcoming projects in our Off the Grid and Outreach Tour programs, actors must submit a video audition by July 21, 2020. Actors will be invited to Zoom call-backs on a show-by-show basis.

Outreach Tour Compensation:
Actors for The Wind in the Willows will be paid $500 per week for two weeks. Rehearsals will occur Sept. 8 – 18, filming on Sept. 19. Fittings are required on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

Off the Grid Compensation:
Actors for interactive, virtual and immersive performances will be paid an hourly rate which will be provided when called back for shows.

Health and Safety:
The Playhouse health and safety plans are in accordance with guidelines outlined by the CDC and the State of Ohio.

Digi and Mike Schueler Make $3 Million Commitment to Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

Gift to support new theatre construction as well as ongoing operations

CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park today announced a $3 million pledge from Digi and Mike Schueler to help construct its new mainstage theatre complex and to support artistic programming for the next five years.

“Digi and Mike’s extraordinary gift leads us into the homestretch of our capital campaign,” says Blake Robison, artistic director. “And making a five-year commitment to our future artistic programming speaks volumes about their love of the Playhouse and the confidence they have in work we put onstage for the community. We can’t thank them enough.”

Included in the pledge is a capital campaign gift of $1.75 million that gives the Schuelers naming rights to the lobby of the new facility. The Playhouse now has $41.5 million in funds committed toward the project total of $49.5 million. The Schuelers join Moe and Jack Rouse and the Rosenthal Family as the lead donors of the Playhouse’s capital campaign.

“Digi and I hope our gift inspires others to join us in helping deliver this project to the community,” says Mr. Schueler, who is Chairman and CEO of The Schueler Group, a real estate, development and construction company located in Warren County.

The Schuelers are active throughout Greater Cincinnati with numerous social service and arts organizations. Mrs. Schueler has been a member of the Playhouse Board of Trustees for 16 years and has filled a variety of leadership positions during that time. She also currently serves on the boards of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Every Child Succeeds, 4C for Children and East End Adult Education.

“The Playhouse is a national treasure right here in Cincinnati,” says Mrs. Schueler. “We are so pleased to play our part in securing its future for generations to come.”

With the other $1.25 million of their pledge, the Schuelers have committed to continue their season sponsorship of the mainstage series in the current Marx Theatre and future Rouse Theatre as well as a select production sponsorship in the Rosenthal Shelterhouse Theatre through the 2025-26 Season.

The Playhouse began site preparation work for the building construction in the spring to move utilities, change traffic patterns and create the staging area for the new theatre. That work is on track to be completed by the end of the summer. Ground-breaking for the new theatre is slated for late fall 2020, assuming no delays related to COVID-19 issues. Projected opening of the new theatre complex remains late 2022.

2020-2021 Season Updated at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

PIP_logoWe hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. Your well-being is extremely important to us, and that’s why we’ve made so many changes to our regularly scheduled productions.

We are excited to share that we will now open the 2020-21 season with Agatha Christie’s thrilling MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, and the humorous and uplifting BECOMING DR. RUTH, presented by The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati!

This means our trip to the Emerald City in The Wizard of Oz is going to be postponed for a future season. While we will miss going down the Yellow Brick Road this fall, we’re incredibly excited for you to experience this highly anticipated murder mystery. Likewise, our previously scheduled production of the heartfelt and cathartic Tiny Beautiful Things will move later in the 2020-21 season and take the place of the world premiere play Rooted, which we look forward to producing in the future.

ACTUALLY, Educational Programming, Off the Hill and Off the Grid Series Cancelled at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

The CDC has recommended banning gatherings of 50 or more in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Our first priority is to ensure the safety of our patrons, artists, staff and the general public. Unfortunately, this means all upcoming performances of Destiny of Desire and Actually have now been cancelled. While it breaks our heart, community health and well-being is of the utmost importance in this extraordinary time.

As you may or may not know, the Playhouse is a non-profit organization. Though we do earn money from ticket sales, we also rely on the generosity of people like you. Please consider transferring your ticket to a tax-deductible donation to support us in this uncertain time, and help get the theatre back up-and-running when that time comes. We truly appreciate your consideration.

If you have a ticket to a cancelled performance, you can:

  • Donate your ticket and receive a tax deduction for the total ticket value
  • Credit your ticket value toward a future performance
  • Credit your ticket value toward a 2020-21 subscription
  • Refund your ticket price

For the safety of our staff, the Box Office is running with a limited crew or working remotely. Please submit your ticket requests through the forms linked by show below. You will receive a confirmation via email once your request has been completed. If you’d like a call, please include that in the request box at the bottom of the form, and a Patron Services staff member will contact you within 10 days.

Future Performances
We are currently investigating the possibility of postponing Agatha Christie’s MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS and BECOMING DR. RUTH until the summer. Please be patient and bear with us until we are able to determine the feasibility of this plan. If we find this isn’t possible and the shows are cancelled, you’ll have the same options for your tickets as listed above. We respectfully ask that you hold off on these requests for now. Thank you for your support and patience during this extraordinary time.

Education Programming Update
We’ve also decided to exercise caution and cancel all Off the Grid and Off the Hill performances, as well as acting classes for the remainder of the season — even though these performances are under the governor’s guideline. People with tickets to these programs and performances have been contacted separately to take care of their tickets.

All Performances Cancelled for DESTINY OF DESIRE at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park

Our first priority, of course, is to adhere to the measures outlined by our public officials and ensure the safety of our patrons, artists, staff and the general public. Unfortunately, this means all upcoming performances of DESTINY OF DESIRE have been cancelled. While it breaks our heart to shorten the run of this joyous production, community health and well-being is of the utmost importance in this extraordinary time. Please check back for information on other cancellations and updates.

The following options are available for those who have already purchased tickets to cancelled performances. Transferring your ticket to a donation supports Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park during these uncertain times and we appreciate your consideration.
