Cincinnati Lab Theatre Now Accepting Submissions for the 2017 & 2018 New Works Festivals

clt_logoCincinnati LAB Theatre, a division of Falcon Theatre, is pleased to accept submissions from local playwrights for their upcoming 2017 and 2018 New Works Festivals. Plays/Musicals are being considered for the LAB track: first, as a reading as part of the 2017 Play Reading series with opportunity to be workshopped and produced as a main stage production in 2018.

Cincinnati-area playwrights should submit their full length drafts of one-act or short two-act plays and musicals to cincinnnatilabtheatre@gmail.com for consideration, as well as a one page synopsis of the piece. Electronic submissions only.

The submission opportunity will end April 30th with notification of those selected on May 30, 2017.

Other considerations:

  • One submission per playwright.
  • Plays must not have had any professional productions.
  • Small casts (around 5 actors) are preferred.
  • Sets should be simple.
  • Musicals should be accompanied by a vocal and piano/conductor score.
  • This is an opportunity to work with professional actors and a director to improve your work and see it realized. There is no monetary compensation.
  • Playwrights must be available for the workshop process from July – August in both 2017 and 2018.

Aug. 4-13
Falcon Theatre [Newport]

CHASE THE DRAGON by Kirk Sheppard
Directed by Jared D. Doren
Cast: Carter Bratton, Rupert Spraul, Bob Allen, Tess Talbot & Henry Howland

Peter wants to make a difference; his chosen career path should allow him to do so.  But sometimes people run from their past, and other times they chase it. The play explores the lives of at-risk youth and what happens when we don’t have a handle on our own history.

JUDAS by Elizabeth a. Harris
Directed by Elizabeth a. Harris.
Cast: Brian Berendts & Derek Snow

A betrayer, an outcast, a pariah, the lowest of the low: This is Judas. Or is it? How would our views of Christianity and the Messiah change if we discovered Judas was actually Jesus’ most trusted disciple? Based on the Gospel of Judas, the play examines the limits of love and self-sacrifice and asks the question: “What would you do if the person you loved most in the world asked you to perform the ultimate betrayal for the good of all humanity?”

3SOME by Brian Griffin

Expectations are shattered and lives are changed when three strangers meet one evening and get something none of them bargained for.

MEDUSA IN YOU by Valetta Anderson

The murder of the innocents is something no people forget. And the innocents are every woman’s child, whatever age and swaddled in any color of skin.
