CINCINNATI, OH – Due to Ohio Governor DeWine’s recent order banning public gatherings of 100 or more people until further notice to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, next week’s performances of Shen Yun have been rescheduled to the following dates at the Aronoff Center’s Procter & Gamble Hall.  The show was originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 – Friday, March 20.

  • Friday, January 29, 2021 at 7:30 PM (originally March 18)
  • Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 7:30 PM (originally March 19)
  • Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 2:00 PM (originally March 20)

Current ticketholders will be sent new tickets with the rescheduled date and time that corresponds to their original tickets, per above. The new tickets will be sent the week of April 20, 2020.

Ticket holders who are unable to attend the rescheduled performance or who have any questions may contact the Aronoff Center Ticket Office for exchange and refund options prior to April 17 at (513) 621-2787 (Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM) or ticketing@cincinnatiarts.org.

Tickets are on sale now at www.CincinnatiArts.org and (513) 621-ARTS [2787] for the rescheduled performances from January 29-31.

Events In Process of Being Rescheduled at Cincinnati Arts Association

CINCINNATI, OH – Yesterday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued an order banning public gatherings of 100 or more people until further notice to slow the spread of the coronavirus. This directive remains in effect until the State of Emergency is lifted or the Director of Health rescinds the order. We anticipate it will be several weeks at minimum.

The Cincinnati Arts Association, as well as the resident companies at the Aronoff Center and Music Hall, began to take action on Governor DeWine’s directive immediately following the announcement. We appreciate the leadership of our state and local officials, and will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation as it evolves to ensure the health and safety of our audiences, artists, staff, and volunteers. This remains our number one priority.

Currently, we are working to reschedule as many events as possible through April 12. This process may take some time. For the events we are able to reschedule, ticketholders will be notified of the new date and ticket information/options. The most up-to-date status of these events is available on our website.

If an event cancels, all tickets and fees will be automatically refunded to the original method of payment. Cash purchases will be refunded by check. If you have questions, contact CAA Ticketing Services at (513) 621-2787 [ARTS] or ticketing@cincinnnatiarts.org. NOTE: CAA cannot refund tickets purchased from a ticket reseller. Contact the reseller directly regarding its refund policies.

If the status changes for events scheduled after April 12, we will notify all ticketholders by email and/or phone before the event. The latest updates will be posted on our website and our Facebook event pages.

We will continue to follow the guidance of the State of Ohio, the City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and local health officials, and make future decisions based on the most current directives and in response to changing conditions/timelines.

Our thoughts are with the many individuals and families who are and will be affected by the coronavirus. CAA Announces 2020 Overture Award Winners

CINCINNATI, OH – The Cincinnati Arts Association is pleased to announce the winners of its Overture Awards Competition, held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at the Aronoff Center’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater, and the winner of its Arts Educator Award for Excellence in Arts Instruction. The competition awarded $4,000 to six area students for education and training, with 19 runners-up each winning $1,000, while the Arts Educator Award winner received $2,500 and two finalists were awarded $500 each.

The Overture Awards recognizes, encourages, and rewards excellence in the arts among Tri-state students in grades 9-12 and is the area’s largest solo arts competition. Students are nominated by their schools and/or private studios to compete in one of six disciplines: Creative Writing, Dance, Instrumental Music, Theater, Visual Art, and Vocal Music. There are three levels of competition: Regional, Semi-Final, and Final.

The Arts Educator Award promotes and rewards excellence in arts instruction throughout Greater Cincinnati. An educator who teaches any of the following arts disciplines may be nominated: Creative Writing, Dance, Instrumental Music, Theater, Visual Art, and Vocal Music. They can be a high school arts specialist, teaching artist working with high school students, or an arts professional or educator providing private lessons or instruction. Nominations for the award must come from students between the ages of 14-19 who are currently enrolled in high school. The Arts Educator Award finalists and winner are selected by a panel of judges who are arts professionals.

2020 OVERTURE AWARDS WINNERS

CREATIVE WRITING: Sam Bowden, grade 12, Wyoming High School
HOMETOWN: Wyoming, OH – Sam is honored to return as an Overture Awards Finalist for the second year in a row. He serves as editor-in-chief for his high school’s literary magazine, has participated in writing workshops at Northwestern University and Kenyon College, and has won five Scholastic Writing Awards. He’ll be attending college in the fall, but that’s about all he knows right now. He is still working on a trilogy of novels.

DANCE: Ava Sine, grade 12, School for Creative & Performing Arts / Just Off Broadway
HOMETOWN: Anderson Township, OH – Ava is honored to be selected as an Overture Finalist. She has danced professionally as Clara in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular featuring the Rockettes, and most recently, as Mary in Awaited (produced by Crossroads Church). Ava trains in all styles of dance and plans to pursue a career in dance.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC: Kasey Shao, grade 11, Walnut Hills High School / Ran Dank
HOMETOWN: Pleasant Ridge, OH – At age twelve, Kasey made her concerto debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Kasey was named the 2020 National YoungArts Gold Winner and has been recognized as a 2020 Chopin Scholar. She has won numerous national and international piano competitions, including first place in the Steinway Piano Competition, second place in the National 2018 MTNA competition, and first place at the Louisville Young Artist Concerto Competition.

THEATER: Jalaysia Bell, grade 12, School for Creative & Performing Arts
HOMETOWN: Westwood, OH – In third grade, Jalaysia’s love for the arts began. At SCPA, Jalaysia is also a stage manager and recently managed the show Almost, Maine. The person that inspires her is her mother, who passed away last March. In the future, Jalaysia would like to use her art to help people who are in difficult situations.

VISUAL ART: Halle West, grade 11, Kings High School
HOMETOWN: Landen, OH – Halle found a love for art after working with Merlene Schain as a part of Schain Studios. She plays bass for the Kings Orchestra and is a past member of the Kings Color Guard and Winter Guard. Halle plans to study art in college with a focus on concept design or illustration. She has received two silver keys and ten gold keys at the regional level from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

VOCAL MUSIC: Anna Gaddie, grade 12, Conner High School / Moss Performing Arts Academy
HOMETOWN: Hebron, KY – Anna began studying vocal music with Moss Performing Arts as a sophomore and discovered her love for classical voice. She has attended KY Governor’s School for the Arts, is an active member of her school’s choir and theatre programs, and plans to study music in the fall. She is incredibly grateful to her teachers and family for supporting her and is excited for this opportunity to perform in the finals!

The Overture Awards Regional Competitions were held on January 25 at the Immanuel School of Music, Northern Kentucky University, and Mount Saint Joseph University. The top twenty percent of competitors in each discipline advanced to the Semi-Finals, which were held at the Aronoff Center on February 6-8.

Now in its twenty-fourth year, The Overture Awards was launched in 1996 by the Cinergy Foundation (now Duke Energy) and Leadership Cincinnati (a program of the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber). The Overture Awards is funded and administered by the Cincinnati Arts Association, which operates and manages the Aronoff Center and Music Hall. The Overture Awards also relies on hundreds of volunteers from the community who help raise funds, adjudicate and manage the competitions, and nurture the program.

2020 OVERTURE AWARDS FINALS COMPETITION AND AWARDS CEREMONY | Sat., March 7 | Aronoff Center

CINCINNATI, OH – The Cincinnati Arts Association (CAA) is proud to present the 2020 Overture Awards Finals Competition. The Overture Awards provides $4,000 to six area high school students for education and training expenses, with eighteen finalists each winning $1,000. The program also provides a $2,500 Arts Educator Award for Excellence in Arts Instruction.

The Overture Awards Finals Competition and Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Aronoff Center’s Jarson-Kaplan Theater. Winners will be announced immediately following the competition. Tickets are $15, $10 and available online at www.CincinnatiArts.org, by phone at 513.621.ARTS [2787] or at the Aronoff Center Ticket Office.

Visual Art Finalists Exhibition will showcased in the Aronoff Center’s Center Stage Room (adjacent to the Weston Art Gallery on 7th Street) from Tuesday, March 3 – Saturday, March 7, 2020.

This year, 369 students were nominated by their schools or studios to compete in one of six artistic disciplines: Creative Writing, Dance, Instrumental Music, Theater, Visual Art, and Vocal Music. The Overture Awards was developed to recognize, encourage, and reward excellence in the arts among Tri-state students in grades 9-12. It also provides students an opportunity to share their talents and interests among their peers in a supportive environment outside of their individual schools. There are three levels of competition: Regional, Semi-Final, and Final.

The Overture Awards Regionals Competitions were held on January 25 at the Immanuel School of Music, Northern Kentucky University, and Mount Saint Joseph University. Arts Educator Award For Excellence in Arts Instruction

The Arts Educator Award promotes and rewards excellence in arts instruction throughout Greater Cincinnati. An educator who teaches any of the following arts disciplines may be nominated: Creative Writing, Dance, Instrumental Music, Theater, Visual Art, and Vocal Music. They can be a high school arts specialist, teaching artist working with high school students, or an arts professional or educator providing private lessons or instruction. Nominations for the award must come from students between the ages of 14-19 who are currently enrolled in high school. Nominations are made by submitting an on-line application with a three-minute video about why the nominee is an exemplary arts educator.

The winner of the 2020 award will receive $2,500, and two finalists will receive $500 each. The recipients of the Arts Educator Award may utilize the monetary award to strengthen their program or practice, e.g. an artist fee for a guest lecturer or master class, the purchase of equipment, or a professional learning opportunity such as tuition assistance for either the educator or for students to study with the recipient or another professional.

CINCINNATI, OH – Due to the evolving impact of the coronavirus and the directives from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine regarding the ban on public gatherings until further notice, Cincinnati Arts Association’s annual fundraiser, Dancing for the Stars 2020, scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Cincinnati’s Music Hall Ballroom, has cancelled.

Guests who purchased tickets and made donations to the fundraiser have been notified, and their tickets and donations will be refunded.

CINCINNATI, OH – Who will be voted Cincinnati’s best celebrity dancer?  Which stars have the right moves to rule the dance floor?  Find out on Saturday, April 18, 2020 when the Cincinnati Arts Association (CAA) celebrates season fourteen of its annual fundraiser Dancing for the Stars at the Music Hall Ballroom to benefit CAA’s Overture Awards – the nation’s largest locally-run high school arts scholarship competition – and Arts Education Programs. 

Inspired by the hit ABC-TV show Dancing with the Stars, Dancing for the Stars will feature nine Cincinnati celebrities paired with some of the area’s finest professional dancers in a competition program, at which the audience will vote for their favorite celebrity dancer. The competitive dance for the evening will be the Foxtrot and each dance pair will have ninety seconds to woo the crowd and the judges.

In addition, Dancing for the Stars will feature:

  • Online silent auction
  • Dance music by guest DJ “Rockin’ Ron” Schumacher, 103.5 WGRR-FM
  • Pre-event reception and wine tasting
  • Open dancing before and after the competition
  • Lite bites provided by some of Cincinnati’s finest restaurants and caterers
  • Cash bar

In addition to the winner of the dance competition, Dancing for the Stars will crown a Fundraising Champion – the celebrity dancer who raises the most revenue toward the event’s fundraising goal through table/ticket sales and donations. Fans may add a donation under their favorite celebrity’s name at the time of ticket purchase, or simply make a donation if they cannot attend the event. These direct donations (outside of the event ticket price) will help one of the fans’ favorite celebrities win the Dancing for the Stars Fundraising Champion award – which will be announced the evening of the event – and are 100% tax deductible.

Tickets are currently on sale at the following levels (a portion of the ticket price is tax-deductible):

  • $150 – Patron (pre-event reception and two drink tickets)
  • $1,500 – Corporate Table (ten Patron level tickets and a half-page program ad)
  • $2,000 – Celebrity Circle Table (premium “first-row” viewing of competition area, ten Patron level tickets, full-page program ad, recognition on event signage)

CINCINNATI ARTS ASSOCIATION’S ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAMS
CAA’s Education Department promotes life-long learning through its programs, which are diverse, multidisciplinary, and accessible to all ages and cultural groups. SchoolTime presents a series of programs that feature nationally-recognized artists at CAA’s two venues (the Aronoff Center and Music Hall), and Artists On Tour brings the finest local artists in the region to Tri-state schools for interactive arts experiences aligned with the curriculum.

The Overture Awards Scholarship Competition is the largest locally-run arts scholarship competition in the country.  The program annually provides a $4,000 scholarship to six area high school students for education and training, with 18 finalists each winning a $1,000 scholarship. Each year, nearly 400 students are nominated by their schools to compete in one of six artistic disciplines: Creative Writing, Dance, Instrumental Music, Theater, Visual Art, or Vocal Music. There are three levels of competition: Regional, Semi-Finals, and Final.

The Overture Awards was developed to recognize, encourage, and reward excellence in the arts among Tri-state students in grades 9-12. It also provides students an opportunity to share their talents and interests among their peers in a supportive environment outside of their individual schools.  Now in its 24th year, The Overture Awards was launched in 1996 by the Cinergy Foundation and Leadership Cincinnati (a Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce program).

Founded in 1992, the Cincinnati Arts Association (CAA) is a not-for-profit organization that oversees the programming and management of two of the Tri-state’s finest performing arts venues – the Aronoff Center for the Arts and Music Hall – and is dedicated to supporting performing and visual arts. Each year, CAA presents a diverse schedule of events; serves more than 600,000 people in its venues; features the work of talented local, regional, and national artists in the Weston Art Gallery (located in the Aronoff Center); and supports the work of more than one dozen resident companies, including Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Symphony/Pops Orchestras, May Festival, and Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Cincinnati, presented by TriHealth. Since the inception of its acclaimed arts education programs in 1995, CAA has reached nearly 1.6 million students.
