2019-2020 Season Announced by CenterStage Players

CSPOH_logoCenterStage Players is delighted to announce their 2019-2020 season!

Our season opens with THE ELEPHANT MAN by Bernard Pomerance and directed by Tom Peters. The story of John Merrick during his stay at London’d Whitechapel Hospital under the care of Sir Frederick Treves, a surgeon, in 1880. Premiering in London in November of 1977, the production moved to Broadway in 1979 and ran until 1981, winning the Tony Award for Best Play (among others).  The play was adapted for a 1982 broadcast on ABC and a radio play by the BBC in 1988.
September 27-29 and October 4-6, 2019

Next up, we present MARVIN’S ROOM by Scott MacPherson and directed by Julie Jordan. Premiering at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago in 1990, it won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding play in 1992. Bessie, a strong-willed woman, takes care of her bedridden father and eccentric Aunt Ruth. After Bessie is diagnosed with leukemia, her estranged sister, Lee, comes to visit and to be tested as a possible bone marrow donor for her sister. The reunion between the sisters is initially uncomfortable, aggravated by the difficult behavior of Lee’s two sons. The two women eventually confront their shortcomings as sisters, reach out to each other, and arrive at an understanding about the importance of family.
November 15-17 and 22-24, 2019

In the new year, we are presenting a new play written by local playwright Fred Rothzeid and directed by R. Chris Lee. In MOMUS AND APHRODITE, Momus, God of Satire, Blame and Criticism, travels with Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, Passion and Beauty, to Athens, Ohio in search of a man willing to die out of love for her.  Hilarity ensues.  Does love conquer all?  More importantly, can two Greek gods actually find happiness in Athens, Ohio?
March 13-5 and 20-22, 2020

Put on your shoulder pads, grab your Walkman and peg your jeans. We will wrap up the season with HEATHERS: The Musical . With book, lyrics and music by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy,  Amanda Borchers will be directing this bitingly satirical romp through high school during the golden age of MTV. You know. When they played music!  Hey, what’s your damage? This dark comedy is based on the 1988 cult classic movie, Heathers and was adapted to the stage in 2013.  After playing to sold out crowds in Los Angeles during previews, it moved to Off-Broadway in spring of 2014.
May 1-3 and 8-10, 2020

Lockland High School

Chekhov is alive and well in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where adult siblings Vanya and Sonia reside in their old family home, mourning their lost dreams and missed opportunities. When their often-wrong, fortune-telling maid warns of impending dangers, and their movie star sister, Masha, arrives unexpectedly with young, sexy, boy toy, Spike, the family is launched into a rollicking weekend of one-upmanship, exposed nerves, and a lot of broken mugs. With wit and absurdity, Christopher Durang’s Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike blends Chekhov’s famous ennui with the modern-day toils and troubles of celebrity, social networking, and age into a laugh-out-loud comedy that will tickle your funny bone and stimulate your mind.
