Auditions Announced for MOONLIGHT & MAGNOLIAS at Beechmont Players

BPI_logoBeechmont Players Inc. is proud to announce auditions for our Summer production of Moonlight and Magnolias.

A play by Ron Hutchison

Directed by Laura Berkemeier
Produced by Dan Cohen

Moonlight and Magnolias rehearsals will start in April in order to accommodate Summer vacation schedules. Production dates are August 2nd-10th, 2024

When: March 18th & 19th from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.
Where: Cherry Grove United Methodist Church, 1428 Eight Mile Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45244

Please bring a theatrical resume, headshot (if able), and a complete list of conflicts from April 1st through August 10th.

Auditions will consist of selected readings from the script on both nights. You do not have to attend both sessions.

The Play:
1939 Hollywood is abuzz. Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind, a film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel. The screenplay, you see, just doesn’t work. So what’s an all-powerful movie mogul to do? While fending off the film’s stars, gossip columnists and his own father-in-law, Selznick sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of The Wizard of Oz. Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men labor over five days to fashion a screenplay that will become the blueprint for one of the most successful and beloved films of all time.

The Characters and age requirements.
– David O. Selznick – 37(ish).
– Ben Hecht – 35(ish).
– Victor Fleming – 50(ish)
– Miss Poppenghul – No age requirements.

Moonlight and Magnolias is, of course, based on actual people, and *mostly* true events. With that in mind, the above ages are accurate to the ages the real people would have been in 1939. That said, please do not feel constrained by the ages listed above. The final cast will be determined based on chemistry and believability.

2024-2025 Season Announced by Beechmont Players

BPI_logoBeechmont Players is thrilled to announce their 2024-2025 season
(Season ticket information to follow soon)

MOONLIGHT & MAGNOLIAS
a comedy by Ron Hutchinson
Directed by Laura Berkemeier
August 2-10, 2024

In 1939 Hollywood, legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind, a film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel. The screenplay, you see, just doesn’t work. So what’s an all-powerful movie mogul to do? FUN HOME
a musical with music by Jeanine Tesori & books and lyrics by Lisa Kron
Directed by Arlene Balczo
November 8-16, 2024

Based on a memoir by the same name, Tony Award-winning Fun Home centers around graphic novelist Alison Bechdel’s relationship with her father. After his unexpected death, Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father’s hidden desires. Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.

ELEEMOSYNARY
a drama by Lee Blessing
Directed by Kate Brauer-Bell
February 7-15, 2025

Eleemosynary probes into the delicate relationship of three singular women: the grandmother, Dorothea, who has sought to assert her independence through strong-willed eccentricity; her brilliant daughter, Artie (Artemis), who has fled the stifling domination of her mother; and Artie’s daughter, Echo, a child of exceptional intellect—and sensitivity—whom Artie has abandoned to an upbringing by Dorothea. As the play begins, Echo is caring for Dorothea, who has just had a stroke. During the play, Echo tries to bring the three women together. Eleemosynary presents fragmented vignettes of the lives of the three women as they struggle to define themselves both as individuals and as part of a family unit. This poignant and mature study of familial relationships highlights the human need for connection and forgiveness.

WORKING
a musical adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso
Directed by Maggie Ingram King
May 2-10, 2025

Based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers, the musical of Working paints a vivid portrait of the workers that the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the phone operator, the waitress, the millworker, the mason and the housewife, just to name a few. Nominated for six Tony Awards, this classic has been updated for a modern age, featuring new songs by Tony Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as favorites by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, James Taylor, Micki Grant, and more. With permission from the publishing company, this special localized version will include interviews from the Greater Cincinnati Area.

Auditions Announced for DEATH BY FATAL MURDER at Beechmont Players

BPI_logoBeechmont Players, Inc. Announces Auditions for DEATH BY FATAL MURDER, a comic thriller by Peter Gordon

Directed by jef brown
Produced by Pam Kaesemeyer

February 12th & 13th at 6:30p.m.

Cherry Grove United Methodist Church
1428 Eight Mile Rd
Cincinnati, OH 45255

Inspector Pratt’s record of crime detection at Bagshot House isn’t enviable. On his two previous visits, the body count mounted, as he looked on, hopeless and helpless. Now, he’s back – and, as usual, chaos reigns supreme. Pratt meets Nancy Allwright, the new owner of the house, and is soon embroiled in yet more mystery and mayhem, aided and abetted by Miss Maple and Constable Thompkins.

The cast will consist of four actors and four actresses, 20s and older:

  • Inspector Pratt – middle-aged, clumsy, inept.  British.
  • Constable Thompkins – shy, but capable.  British.
  • Enzo Garibaldi – Italian, with an eye for the ladies.
  • Squadron Leader Roger (Stiffy) Allwright – devil-may-care RAF Officer.
  • Nancy Allwright – bright, open and friendly.  British.
  • Ginny Fahrquar – Annoyingly posh, with an annoying laugh.  British (of course).
  • Miss Joan Maple  ‘mature’ local tweedy crime-solver.  British.
  • Blodwyn Morgan – middle-aged. Overwhelming.  Welsh.

Death by Fatal Murder will be staged May 3-11, 2024 at the Anderson Center.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script.
