Scottish Dance Workshop Available Prior to BRIGADOON Auditions at the Covedale Center

CCPACincinnati Landmark Productions’ audition for the Covedale Center’s 2015-2016 season closer, BRIGADOON take place Oct. 25 & 26.

Prior to the audition, CLP is holding a Scottish Dance Workshop for potential auditonees on Sat, Oct. 17 from noon-3:30pm

What to Expect: A mini “crash course” as an introduction to the basics of Scottish country dancing and Highland dance. Scottish country dancing is the traditional social and ballroom dancing of Scotland, usually in sets of three to four couples, and is in many ways similar to Irish ceili and American square dancing, with basic footwork that accompanies the group figures. Highland dance is the style that most people associate with Scottish dancing, and is a form of competitive, technical solo dancing historically performed only by men.

Both types of Scottish dancing, along with tap dancing and other styles, will be incorporated into BRIGADOON. This workshop is designed to offer the basic steps and and introduction to these styles of dance to those not otherwise familiar with them who would like more instruction prior to engaging in the actual dances for the audition. Instruction will be given in the basic steps and figures used in Scottish country dancing, as well as the basic Highland steps used in the Highland Fling and Sword Dance.

What to Wear: Comfortable danceable clothing (preferably not baggy – shorts, leotards/tights/skirts, or dance/yoga pants are suggested) and clean, soft-soled shoes (no heels, please). Ballet-type slippers, “jazz shoes”, Scottish ghillies or Irish pumps are ideal if you have them, but even sneakers will work to start off with.

Improvisers often use audience suggestions to create a full performance containing dialogue, plot and setting. Businesses use improvisation workshops to learn how to develop, build and understand relationships.

Improv can teach you how to read an audience, tell a story and use body language to best effect. Improv skills can help you sustain grace under pressure, improve effective communication, take intelligent risks and problem solve in the moment. Improv teaches negotiating with respect, making positive flexible choices and listening in proactive ways.
