CLP Announces its 2024-2025 Marquee Season at the Covedale Center for the Performing Arts

CCPACincinnati Landmark Productions announces its 2024 – 2025 Marquee Season at the Covedale Center for Performing Arts!

NUNSENSE
September 12 – October 6, 2024
Book, Music and Lyrics by Dan Goggin

The all-time hit musical spoof about the misadventures of five star-struck, singing, dancing nuns! Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia Child of God. The remaining nuns – ballet-loving Sister Leo, streetwise Sister Robert Anne, befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia, the Mother Superior Sister Regina, and mistress of the novices Sister Mary Hubert – stage a wildly off-kilter talent show to raise the money to bury their dearly departed. With catchy songs and irresistible comedy, Nunsense is sure to keep you rolling with laughter. NUNSENSE is habit-forming!

SOMETHING ROTTEN
October 17 – November 10, 2024
Book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell, Music and Lyrics by Karey Kirkpatrick and Wayne Kirkpatrick

Welcome to the Renaissance! The Black Plague has ceded power to the Puritans. Farthingales and codpieces are the latest fashion trends. And the biggest celebrity in England is some guy named William Shakespeare. Meanwhile, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, in trying to keep their acting company afloat consult a soothsayer who informs them that the future of theatre involves acting, singing, and dancing – sometimes all at once! With hilarious songs like “I Hate Shakespeare,” “Will Power” and the title tune “Something Rotten,” the Bottom brothers write the world’s very first “musical,” as they battle the Bard himself. SOMETHING ROTTEN is a hysterical, joyous musical celebration of everything you love about Broadway!

DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
December 5 – 29, 2024
Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, Book by Linda Woolverton

Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, this internationally famous, full-stage production includes all the famous songs including “Be Our Guest,” “If I Can’t Love Her,” “Home” and the title tune “Beauty and the Beast.” The story tells of Belle, a girl in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end, and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out! Our production will be bedecked for the holidays! Think of Belle’s village, the enchanted forest and the Beast’s castle sparkling like ornaments on the Covedale stage. It’s a yuletide treat for the entire family. Experience this “tale as old as time” for Christmas!

KEN LUDWIG’S LEND ME A TENOR
January 23 – February 16, 2025
By Ken Ludwig

Winner of 3 Tony Awards! LEND ME A TENOR is the perfect comedy to perk up the gray days of winter! On a big night for the Cleveland Grand Opera, Tito Mirelli, the world-famous Italian tenor, is set to star in “Pagliacci.” Henry Saunders – general manager of the company – is beyond stressed-out and insists that his assistant, Max – a nervous fellow and secret tenor extraordinaire – watch over Tito’s every move to ensure smooth sailing. But after a fight with his fiery wife Maria, Tito accidentally gets a double dose of tranquilizers! Throw in Diana, an ambitious, female co-star; Maggie, Max’s giddy girlfriend; Julia, a flirty head of the opera guild; and a meddling bellhop fighting for Tito’s attention, and you get a recipe for comedic disaster! LEND ME A TENOR is one side-splitting night at the theater!

SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN
March 13 – April 6, 2025
Screenplay by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Songs by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown; Based on the classic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film by special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Inc.

One of the greatest musicals in history! SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN, has earned the top spot atop AFI’s 100 Years of Musicals list and, in 2007, was ranked as the 5th greatest motion picture of all time. Now adapted for the stage, SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN captures the waning days of the silent screen era as they give way to new-fangled “talkies” and movie musicals. But Monumental Studios’ silent film siren, Lina Lamont, can’t sing – and her speaking voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard! Enter Kathy Selden, an aspiring actress whose lovely voice is used to over-dub Lina’s screech, but she doesn’t get the credit! Of course, in the end Kathy finds stardom, plus love with her leading man, Don Lockwood. SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN includes some of the best-loved comedy routines, dance numbers, and love songs ever written including “Good Mornin’,” “Make ‘em Laugh,” and – of course – the show-stopping dance number, “Singin’ in the Rain.”

2024 Season Announced by Middletown Lyric Theatre

MLT_logoMAYTAG VIRGIN
March 8-16

Join us as we follow Alabama school teacher Lizzy Nash and her new neighbor, Jack Key, over the year following the tragic death of Lizzy’s husband. The play explores the ideas of inertia and self-enlightenment, and the bridge between the two.

STRING OF PEARLS
May 3-11

Spanning more than 35 years, our play explores the possibilities that open up in the lives of an array of women as they come into contact with a certain strand of pearls. While the pearls have been stolen, bought, bestowed, unstrung and nearly lost follow their story as the pearls touch the lives of mothers and daughters, sisters and friends, even husbands and wives as they weave a deeply affecting story of love and loss.

BOSTON MARRIAGE
June 21-29

Meet two “women of fashion” who have lived together on the fringes of upper-class society. Anna is the mistress of a wealthy man while Claire is infatuated with a respectable young lady and wants to enlist the jealous Anna’s help for an assignation. All while exchanging barbs and taking turns at taunting Anna’s hapless Scottish parlor maid. A wickedly, funny comedy.

INTO THE WOODS
Aug. 9-17

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

THE GLASS MENAGERIE
Sept. 20-28

Amanda Wingfield is a faded remnant of Southern gentility who now lives in a dingy St. Louis apartment with her son, Tom, and her daughter, Laura, who has a physical handicap and debilitating shyness. When Amanda convinces Tom to bring home from his workplace a “gentleman caller” for Laura, the illusions that Tom, Amanda, and Laura have each created in order to make life bearable collapse about them.

THE THANKSGIVING PLAY
Nov. 9-16

Good intentions collide with absurd assumptions in this wickedly funny satire, as a troupe of terminally “woke” teaching artists scrambles to create a pageant that somehow manages to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month.
