Sunset Players Announces Its 35th Season

SSP_logoCINCINNATI, OH – February 10, 2014 —Sunset Players is pleased to announce its 35th season of performances at the Arts Center at Dunham.

“For our 35th season, we will feature a mix of shows, including a musical, comedy and mystery to entertain our audience,” said John Wesseling, president of Sunset Players. “Sunset Players will continue its special summer production with the award-winning dark comedy, Clybourne Park.”

The 2014-2015 Sunset Players season line-up is:

Addams Family – A New Musical, book by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, music/lyrics by Andrew Lippa. Performances in October 2014.
In its regional community theater premiere, the musical is a creepy, spooky and kooky love story—Addams Family style. As Wednesday Addams is all grown up and falls in love with a normal young man from a respectable family. Chaos ensues as the Addams Family tries to host a normal dinner for the young man’s family. Join Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester and the whole Addams Family in this hilarious, finger snapping good show.

Aladdin, by William Glennon. Performances in December 2014.
The annual holiday children’s show goes to a faraway land in the East where we meet Aladdin and his friends, all of whom have an eye for adventure. Filled with spells, potions and reversals of fortune, Aladdin discovers the magic of the lamp and his love for the Princess!

A Nice Family Gathering, by Phil Olson. Performances in February 2015.
Funny and touching, A Nice Family Gathering is a ghostly love story about a man who loved his wife so much, he almost told her before he died. Now he’s a ghost on a mission, and his son Carl is the unlikely messenger on Thanksgiving Day. When a date for Mom arrives for dinner, bombshell announcements are made, hormones are out of whack, and hilarity ensues.

Wait Until Dark, by Frederick Knott. Performances in May 2015.
Three sinister con men meet their match as they search for a mysterious doll, in the Greenwich Village apartment of Sam Hendrix and his blind wife, Susy. Sam unknowingly transported the doll across the Canadian border, not knowing what was sewn inside. A deadly game of cat and mouse ensues with Susy turning to her one advantage, the darkness, to outmaneuver everyone until the game ends.

Clybourne Park, by Bruce Norris. Performances in July 2015.
Winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize and the 2012 Tony Award, Clybourne Park is a satirical play about race, real estate and communication set in two acts that are fifty years apart. Act one takes place in 1959 with nervous community leaders trying to stop the sale of a home to a black family. Act Two is set in the same house in the present day in a now predominantly African-American neighborhood that is battling to hold its ground in the face of gentrification.

Tickets remain on sale for the remaining 2013-2014 season. Performance include:

The Hallelujah Girls by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten. Show Dates: February 21, 22, 28, March 1, 2, 6, 7 & 8.

When the feisty women friends of Eden Falls, Georgia, decide to shake up their lives after the loss of a dear friend, comedy ensues.

The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow and John Buchan. Show dates: May 2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 15, 16 & 17.

Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel and a dash of Monty Python and you have the hysterical thriller that will keep you in your seat and in stitches.

Next to Normal by Tom Kitt, Book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey. Show dates: July 11, 12, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25 & 26.

This Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical explores how one suburban family copes with crisis and mental illness.

All shows begin at 8pm except Sunday performances that begin at 2pm.

It’s an unforgettable story about going for your dreams and the power of music to connect us all.

ELF The Musical December 2 – 7, 2014

ELF The Musical is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern day Christmas classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner ELF.

The New York Times says that ELF is “Splashy, peppy, sugar-sprinkled holiday entertainment!” USA Today calls ELF, “Endearingly goofy!” Variety proclaims, “ELF is happy enough for families, savvy enough for city kids and plenty smart for adults!”

Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema hit, ELF features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).

Be transported back to your childhood as you rediscover some of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible” and “Ten Minutes Ago,” in this hilarious and romantic Broadway experience for anyone who’s ever had a wish, a dream… or a really great pair of shoes.

ANYTHING GOES February 17 – 22, 2014

All aboard for this saucy and splendid production of ANYTHING GOES, winner of three 2011 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and Choreography! One of the greatest musicals in theater history, Cole Porter’s first-class musical comedy is sailing to Cincinnati. Based on Roundabout Theatre Company’s production, The New York Times calls it “Musical-comedy joy” and USA Today hails it as “Glorious and exuberant!”

When the S.S. American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention get tossed out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love…proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise and some good old-fashioned blackmail. Peppering this timeless classic are some of musical theatre’s most memorable standards, including “I Get A Kick Out Of You,” “You’re the Top,” and of course, “Anything Goes.”

Disney’s THE LION KING March 31 – April 26, 2015

Experience the phenomenon of Disney’s THE LION KING when Cincinnati’s best-loved musical makes a triumphant return to the Aronoff Center following its record-breaking 2007 engagement! Marvel at the breathtaking spectacle of animals brought to life by award-winning director Julie Taymor, whose visual images for this show you’ll remember forever. Thrill to the pulsating rhythms of the African Pridelands and an unforgettable score including Elton John and Tim Rice’s Oscar®-winning song “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” and “Circle of Life.” Let your imagination run wild when the Tony Award-winning Broadway sensation returns to the Aronoff stage.

I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE June 2 – 14, 2015

I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE is the brand-new hit stage show adapted from the most beloved program in television history! America’s favorite foursome – Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel – is live on stage and in color for the very first time!

It’s 1952 and you are a member of the studio audience awaiting the filming of two hilarious and oh-so-familiar I LOVE LUCY® episodes. Imagine stepping back in time onto the Desilu Playhouse soundstage where a charming host entertains and enlightens you to the behind-the-scenes filming process, the 1950s hi-fidelity technology and this brand-new thing called “television.” The episodes begin and you witness, firsthand, the side-splitting antics of that crazy redhead in the Ricardo’s New York apartment and thrill to the Cuban sounds of “The Ricky Ricardo Orchestra” at the famed Tropicana Nightclub. In-between scenes? The Crystaltone Singers perform live advertising jingles of the show’s newest sponsors in perfect 50s style harmony. Can you say “Brylcreem?!”

L.A. Examiner’s Ron Irwin says I LOVE LUCY® LIVE ON STAGE is “an absolutely brilliant and utterly engaging tribute to that iconic television show!” TV Guide’s William Keck calls it “the most entertaining stage production I’ve seen in years – including Broadway!”

SBP Announce 2014/2015 Season

SHOWBIZ PLAYERS ANNOUNCE 2014-2015 SEASON

SBPREEFER MADNESS
9/19-28/2014
Directed by Adam Drake

Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence. You won’t be able to resist the spoofy fun of REEFER MADNESS. The addictive and clever musical numbers range from big Broadway-style showstoppers to swing tunes like ‘Down at the Ol’ Five and Dime’ and the Vegas-style ‘Listen to Jesus, Jimmy,’ featuring J.C. Himself leading a chorus of showgirl angels. This dynamic show will go straight to your head! REEFER MADNESS is a highly stylized and satirical political commentary. It contains adult humor, religious parody, and drug use, as well as suggested violence and sexual explicitness. It therefore may be inappropriate for younger performers and audiences.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY
5/29-6/7/2015
Directed by Bunny Arszman

The ADDAMS FAMILY was created by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice and Drama Desk Award winner Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party). It features an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. And if that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

All performances will be held at the Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center, 1028 Scott Blvd, Covington, KY 41011. For more information check our website at www.showbizplayers.com. If you have any question, call Bunny Arszman at 513-325-7842.

BPI Announces 2014-2015 Season

Beechmont Players, Inc. announces its 2014-15 season

BPI_logo12ANDERSON TOWNSHIP – JANUARY 21, 2014 – Beechmont Players, Inc. (BPI) is proud to announce its 2014-15 season, which contains a mix of farcical comedy – including a U.S. premiere – and drama.

Crazy Horses by Mark Norman: Oct. 17-25, 2014
BPI kicks off its season with the U.S. premiere of the British comedy Crazy Horses, directed by husband and wife duo James and Sarah Updike. Heaven is in chaos. The Department of the Apocalypse is in shambles, overheads are rocketing and the lead time on mortality isn’t cost-efficient. Some consultants have suggested God shakes things up a bit by swapping the roles of the Horsemen – or, rather, Horsepeople – of the Apocalypse. But that only brings its own set of problems.

Move Over, Mrs. Markham by Ray Cooney and John Chapman: Feb. 20-28, 2015
In a farce directed by Vern Burns, filled with mistaken identities and misunderstandings, Mr. and Mrs. Markham have only one bedroom in their apartment. Against his better judgment, Mr. Markham allows his friend, Mr. Lodge, to borrow the bedroom for one evening to engage in a romance. Against her better judgment, Mrs. Markham allows Mrs. Lodge to borrow the bedroom for an evening with someone else. Here’s the catch – it’s the same evening.

Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee: May 8-16, 2015
Directed by Jerry Wiesenhahn, Inherit the Wind, a drama drawn largely from the Scopes Monkey Trial, examines the story of a teacher who is tried for teaching evolution to his class. The teachings of Darwinism and the Bible clash with each other as two powerful lawyers battle their respective sides in court.

BPI presents its shows at the Anderson Center Theatre (7850 Five Mile Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45230). Single tickets are $15 general admission and $13 students, seniors and active military. Season ticket sales information will be released at a later date. To buy tickets or learn more information about BPI, visit www.beechmontplayers.org or call 513.233.2468.
