ASSASSINS Cancelled at Lebanon Theatre Company

LTC_logoWe regret to announce that due to the challenges presented by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, and in light of ongoing restrictions placed upon performance theaters by the State of Ohio, we will be unable to present ASSASSINS in a way that would be safe for the health of our cast, crew, and audience. We know that this decision weighs especially heavily on our cast and crew who were so looking forward to producing this wonderful show, and we cannot thank them enough for their hard work and dedication.

The current environment is especially challenging for LTC and all theatres around the area as we grapple with how to continue fulfilling our mission to present quality theatre to our community while ensuring audience and cast safety and compliance with the law. Unfortunately, there is still a great deal of uncertainty around when we will be able to return to normal operations, if ever. The LTC board of directors is committed to finding a way for LTC to survive and adapt to this “new normal” and find new and innovative ways to deliver theatrical entertainment and education to the community.

We want to be fully transparent at this time: this current climate presents a serious financial challenge for LTC, as we rely heavily on ticket revenue to maintain our operations. The historical generosity of our patrons and prudent financial management by our Board has allowed us to build a rainy day fund to weather difficult periods like this, but should this pandemic persist for several more months, the viability of LTC as an institution will be in serious jeopardy without significant public support.

Thank you as always for your support, especially during these very challenging times. And most importantly, stay safe, stay healthy, and help keep your community healthy.

Benefit Concert on July 17 for Virtual Venue Theatricals

VVT_logoThis is an unprecedented time for the arts. As workers in the live performance industry, our livelihoods are directly affected by the widespread closures and the continued uncertainty of when our careers will resume. While there is no handbook for navigating this new arena, I believe in the strength of my community and our ability to create magic out of adversity.

Hence, Virtual Venue Theatricals was born. Our first production, FIRST DATE, united equity and non-union actors from three states and garnered over a thousand views across social media platforms with audience members tuning in from as far as New Zealand.

First and foremost, the aim of VVT is to open up a space for friends and colleagues in the arts community to work and create in this time. The beauty of remote theatre is the ability to collaborate with artists across the country and the globe; our upcoming benefit concert involves industry professionals from every time zone in the continental U.S. and as far as the UK, Canada, and Japan. In addition to creating work for performers, choreographers, stage managers, and others in the business, Virtual Venue Theatricals provides a new space for writers to workshop or premiere new works.

Our next focus is the essential role of the audience and arts patrons. Virtual performances allow for the unique opportunity to connect audience members from across the world and introduce them to regional theatres, creative professionals, and works previously inaccessible to them. We aim to open up the concept of live theatre to new audiences in a way that has not yet been explored. We believe that there is no substitution to access to full length musicals and plays, new works, song cycles, and cabarets. With Broadway closed through 2021–if not longer–the time is now to embrace a new normal for theatre and the arts.

VVT is currently seeking collaborations with regional theatre houses through a variety of possibilities. Are you looking for a consultant to go through the ins and outs of producing online as you navigate transitioning to virtual performances? Are you in need of a director or technical director for one or more shows in your season? VVT is available through partnership with theatres to combine a knowledge of virtual performances with digital and technical needs. Have another idea for collaboration? We would love to hear about it.

We invite you to attend our benefit concert on Friday, 7/17 at 7:00PM EST to see what we’re about. To view, you can find the concert streaming live on our Facebook page and Instagram @virtualvenuetheatricals or posted to Youtube at the conclusion of the performance.

The Carnegie Launches Creative Disruption Committee to Support Local Art-Making and Performance Community

TC_Creative Disruption Committee logoVolunteer consortium to create original works, partner with existing groups to create new arts experiences

COVINGTON, KY – COVID-19 has significantly impacted the arts and live performance industry, leaving many workers fighting for their livelihoods and without a creative community. In a bid to support local theatre artists and entertainment professionals, The Carnegie is launching the Creative Disruption Committee, a thinktank dedicated to creating live arts experiences for a socially distant world.

FLIPPING THE SCRIPT
At its core, The Carnegie Creative Disruption Committee (The Carnegie CDC) is a volunteer consortium of artists, educators, business and social service professionals that will act as a creative engine and rapid response team to the current struggles of the entertainment industry. It will also provide a new community-based structure for performing arts programming. Instead of The Carnegie planning new projects and then hiring artists to work for us, The Carnegie will go to work on ideas brought forward by artists and organizations and support them with our resources and staff.

PUTTING CREATIVE MINDS (BACK) TO WORK
Although the administrative committee is made up of volunteers, the projects created by The Carnegie CDC will specifically aim to create paid roles for local artists and performers. The Carnegie will devote 75% of profits from The Carnegie CDC-related programming to the artists and organizations collaborating on the projects. Membership in The Carnegie CDC is open to anyone in need of creative community or interested in supporting art-making during the pandemic. The committee seeks to dismantle traditional systems that have excluded minority voices from the arts by promoting and creating art that is inclusive of and/or created by artists from underrepresented communities. Together, we will advocate for the arts and bring joy in uncertain times.

Maggie Perrino, Theatre Director for The Carnegie, believes the creation of the new committee can – and will – be a landmark moment for the region’s live performance community and all its supporters.

“We’re all missing the buzz before the the curtain rises and the thrill of the applause. There is just nothing like live performance. Unfortunately, we can’t safely enjoy these moments in a traditional setting right now, which is why we launched The Carnegie CDC – to assist all those who have dedicated themselves to this industry,” said Perrino. “Our new stages will be the world around us – front porches and parks, city streets and bridges, public squares and personal backyards. And through all of this, we’ll bring a commitment to live theatre experiences in a socially distant world.”

In addition to exploring opportunities for safe, socially distant live experiences, The Carnegie CDC will develop companion digital components for these experiences – all of which equates to the most massive community engagement undertaking in The Carnegie’s history.

Current projects on The Carnegie CDC’s working list include:

  • Development of theatrical, audio-based walking tours;
  • Creation of an emotion-based curriculum to utilizing acting techniques to develop empathy;
  • A fall performance at Pyramid Hill staged in small sections with pre-recorded music;
  • A Halloween haunted theatre walk-thru experience;
  • A social issues performance series focused on topics in today’s headlines and offering educational and discussion components; and
  • Improv show performances at group homes for people with disabilities and living in retirement communities.
