A CHRISTMAS CAROL Comes to Live Nov. 24-Dec. 30

CINCINNATI (Nov. 23, 2021) — Charles’ Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s joyous, time-honored celebration of the true meaning of the holidays returns to the stage for its 30th anniversary, presented by First Financial Bank. Audiences can see the beloved classic in the Robert S. Marx Theatre for the final time from Nov. 24 to Dec. 30. Opening night is Nov. 26.

More than 659,000 people have enjoyed the story of Ebenezer Scrooge at the Playhouse over the past 29 years, comprising more than 1,100 performances (including 168 student matinees). Hundreds of costumes and vivid special effects bring Dickens’ narrative to life as audiences join his time-traversing pilgrimage with the spirits one magical Christmas Eve. The construction of a new, state-of-the-art mainstage theatre complex, now underway, will enable even more theatrical magic and technical capabilities— and with it, a new adaptation in 2023.

“Thousands of families return each year to the Playhouse to make A CHRISTMAS CAROL a part of their holiday traditions,” explains Blake Robison, producing artistic director. “The enduring message of A CHRISTMAS CAROL helps to make it one of the Playhouse’s most popular productions each season and a perfect way to introduce children to the joys of live theatre.”

Bruce Cromer returns to fill Ebenezer Scrooge’s miserly shoes this season for the 17th time, the longest run among the four actors who have played the role, and his son, Charlie, returns for a third season to portray Scrooge as a young adult. For 2020, Cromer brought his role to life through a special one-time production of A Christmas Carol for Radio.

All show times for A CHRISTMAS CAROL are at 2 p.m. for matinees and 7 p.m. for evening performances to accommodate families with children. Please note the earlier curtain time. There will be no performances on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and selected weeknights in early December.

All patrons must present proof of vaccination or negative test and wear a mask to attend. More details on he Playhouse’s COVID-19 safety protocols can be found at cincyplay.com.

In its 15th Season, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is thrilled to spread holiday cheer in just over 90 minutes with “Every Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some!)” by Michael Carleton, James Fitzgerald, and John K. Alvarez. In the play, three actors (with the help of drunk Santa) start with A Christmas Carol which soon devolves into a slightly irreverent take on everyone’s favorite “Beloved Holiday Classics,” including It’s a Wonderful Life, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph, Charlie Brown, and others!

Jeremy Dubin continues his directorial lead for the most praised and popular production in Cincinnati Shakespeare Company’s history, a play that consistently breaks attendance and sales records every year.  “Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and Then Some!)” is a show best enjoyed by adults and older teens; it is not recommended for any theatergoers young enough to believe in Santa Claus. Perfect for date nights, families with older children and teens, and outings with friends, attending the show becomes an experience. Theatergoers are encouraged to arrive with Christmas sweaters and Santa Hats, while Drunk Santa herself makes COVID safe connections with the audience.

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company also offers the opportunity to think outside the gift box and give experiences as presents. Gift Certificates for your selected amount can be redeemed on tickets, subscriptions, classes, summer camp, and more, becoming the perfect present for everyone from students to adult theatergoers. Available for purchase online and same-day pick up in the lobby at CSC.  Learn more about holiday gifting at www.cincyshakes.com/gift.

At this time, all ticketholders must wear masks in addition to showing proof of a full COVID vaccination status OR provide a negative COVID test to enter The Otto M. Budig Theater. More details on the exact procedure are provided before each performance. Learn more at CSC’s Health and Safety page at www.cincyshakes.com/health-and-safety/.

Tickets are on sale now for purchase online or by calling the Box Office. Cincinnati Ballet Offers Specialized Classes for People with Parkinson’s

CB_Parkinson ClassTwice-weekly classes designed to improve flexibility, balance, and quality of life

Cincinnati Ballet announces new dance classes for persons living with Parkinson’s Disease. The new program — CB Moves for Parkinson’s — was created in partnership with Dancing with Parkinson’s Cincinnati. The program is based on the Dance for PD methodology created by acclaimed choreographer Mark Morris. Our expert faculty use movement and music to stimulate both the body and mind, providing a supportive forum for fitness, expression, and community for participants of all ages. Dancers are welcome to enjoy class on their own or to invite a companion to participate with them.

Dance might not seem like the obvious therapy for people living with Parkinson’s Disease, who are often known for tremors in their hands and shuffling of their feet. Parkinson’s Disease can also cause muscle rigidity and affect balance, and patients can experience fatigue, mood disorders, and cognitive impairment that can significantly decrease quality of life. Dance therapy has been shown to improve patients’ motor function and well-being. “Dance may be effective in targeting motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease because it incorporates the stretching and strengthening of muscles, and increases flexibility throughout the body, which may help maintain balance in people with Parkinson’s,” researchers at Northwestern University wrote after conducting a 2018 study which evaluated the benefits of dance therapy in Parkinson’s patients.

All Tri-State PD patients and their loved ones are welcome to program. Classes are held at the Cincinnati Ballet Margaret and Michael Valentine Center for Dance in Walnut Hills on Mondays and Fridays and at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center on Wednesdays. Classes are offered on a drop-in basis so there is no advance commitment required. The $10 class fee covers both the participant and a companion. Financial aid is available.
