Dayton Theatre Guild
Feb. 4-20
[Dayton]

Directed by David Shough
Produced by Christina Tomazinis & Rick Flynn

Cast: Jenna De Gruy as Olive, Cydnie Hampton as Betty, Mike Beerbower as Gus & Adam Jones as Tor

The Norwegians is a strong comedy about women scorned in Minnesota and the nice gangsters —- Norwegian hit men —- they hire to whack their ex-boyfriends. Olive is a transplant from Texas and Betty is a transplant from Kentucky, but neither of them were prepared for the Norwegian men they would fall in love with there: the practical, warm, thoughtful, destructive, evil, jilting kind. Olive attempts to hire Gus and Tor to do in her ex-boyfriend who did her wrong.

THE ODD COUPLE, FEMALE VERSION Runs Feb. 4-12

BPI_logoTHE ODD COUPLE, FEMALE VERSION
Beechmont Players, Inc.
Feb. 4-12
[Anderson Center]

Directed by Arlene Balczo
Produced by Cathy Roesener

Cast: Jennifer Keith as Olive, Laurie Brinkman as Florence, Dee Anne Bryll as Mickey, Maggie Ingram as Sylvia, Debbi Berlon as Renee, Becca Weismann as Vera, Forrest Fairley as Manolo & Bob White as Jesus

Neil Simon’s revision of his hugely successful play, The Odd Couple, sees the lead characters transformed into Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Olive and their group of girlfriends are enjoying their weekly Trivial Pursuit night in Olive’s messy and ill-equipped apartment. As the game continues, Florence arrives, fresh from being dumped by her husband. Fearful that the neurotic Florence might attempt suicide, Olive invites her to move in as her roommate. However, Olive and Florence have VERY different personalities. Where Olive is messy, untidy, and unconcerned about the state of her apartment, Florence is obsessively clean, tidy, and obsessed with hygiene. Olive’s easy-going outlook on life soon clashes with Florence’s highly-strung neurotic tendencies, testing their friendship to the limit. When Olive organizes a double-date with the Costazuela brothers, their differences come to a head and sparks fly.

1/5/21 – Productions are subject to Ohio Laws and restrictions regarding gatherings due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

INCIDENT AT OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP
Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park
Jan. 29-Feb. 27
Marx Theatre [Eden Park]

Directed by Blake Robison

Cast: Barbara Chisholm as Theresa “Terri” Carmichael, Erin Noel Grennan as Josephine “Jo” O’Shea, Elli Maddock as Becky O’Shea, John Plumpis as Mike O’Shea/Father Lovett/Betty Heckenbach & Elise Rucker as Linda O’Shea

Home is where the heart is, but it’s also where chaotic hilarity ensues. The O’Sheas are just like any other family in town: middle-class, Irish, Catholic and determined not to offend the priest or the parish. It’s 1973, and public ridicule in their community is the ultimate nightmare, according to 19-year-old Linda O’Shea. With dry yet affectionate humor, she narrates the most turbulent day of her life when a series of mishaps jeopardizes the family’s reputation. It takes every O’Shea in the house — from Linda’s quirky younger sister to her short-tempered grandmother — to keep the family’s name (and their souls) in good standing. Whether you’ve grown up Catholic or you simply can relate to the craziness of family, this new comedy will leave you in stitches. Recommended for ages 13 and up. Characters discuss taboo Catholic topics like contraception, sex and sexuality, and pregnancy. They also use adult language and the Lord’s name in vain quite a few times.
