Mortimer Brewster is living a happy life: he has a steady job at a prominent New York newspaper, he’s just become engaged, and he gets to visit his sweet spinster aunts to announce the engagement. Mortimer always knew that his family had a bit of a mad gene — his brother believes himself to be Teddy Roosevelt and his great-grandfather used to scalp Indians for pleasure — but his world is turned upside down when he realizes that his dear aunts have been poisoning lonely old men for years! When Mortimer’s maniacal brother, Jonathan. Award-winning playwright Theresa Rebeck (Bad Dates, NBC’s Smash) directs her new hilarious, heartfelt, and human play about a curmudgeonly father, his exasperated daughter, his patient best friend, and life’s messes following its successful Broadway run. Sam doesn’t get out much. Actually, he doesn’t get out at all, opting instead for the safety of his house in the company of his things—his many, many things. But when a notice from the government arrives alerting Sam that he must clean up his property or face eviction, he’s forced to reckon with what’s trash, what’s treasure, and whether we can ever know the difference between the two. After decades of knowing each other, Sam and his companions have no problem being candid with each other, using adult language and touching on some tough topics like PTSD and other mental illnesses, death and suicide, racism, and violence, all while humorously trying to clean up life’s messes.

In a cubicle in small town Idaho, two single dads unexpectedly choose to bring one another into their fragile worlds. Keith, a mortgage broker and Ryan, a yogurt plant worker seeking to buy a plot of land that belonged to his family many decades ago, realize they share a “specific kind of sadness.”

At this desk in the middle of America, “loan talk” opens up into a discussion about the chokehold of financial insecurity and a bond over the precariousness of parenthood. With humor, empathy, and wrenching honesty, Hunter commingles two lives and deftly bridges disparate experiences of marginality.

Cast: Alejandra Decima as Echo, Alaska Stoughton as Artie & Elizabeth Hickerson as Dorothea

Eleemosynary probes into the delicate relationship of three singular women: the grandmother, Dorothea, who has sought to assert her independence through strong-willed eccentricity; her brilliant daughter, Artie (Artemis), who has fled the stifling domination of her mother; and Artie’s daughter, Echo, a child of exceptional intellect—and sensitivity—whom Artie has abandoned to an upbringing by Dorothea. As the play begins, Echo is caring for Dorothea, who has just had a stroke. During the course of the play, Echo tries to bring the three women together. Eleemosynary presents fragmented vignettes of the lives of the three women as they struggle to define themselves both as individuals and as part of a family unit. This poignant and mature study of familial relationships highlights the human need for connection and forgiveness.
