St. Paddy’s Day might have been last week, but you can still celebrate the Luck o’ the Irish (well…English, actually) by having a wee bit more than a pint this Friday with the cast and crew of Falcon’s Theatre’s production of The Lion in Winter!

Immediately following this week’s opening performance, patrons are invited to Wooden Cask Brewing Company, 629 York Street in Newport, to enjoy a beverage and to mingle with the production’s actors and crew and with fellow theatergoers. Wooden Cask is approximately a two-minute walk from Falcon’s stage door.

The Lion in Winter is playwright James Goldman’s deliciously wicked accounting of the love-hate travails between England’s King Henry II and his wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and the accompanying power struggle to name the next heir to the English throne. Comedic in tone, darkly dramatic in action, and filled to overflowing with Goldman’s razor-sharp wit and dialogue, the play has been an audience favorite for more than fifty years.

Although the events depicted in the play took place in the Middle Ages, Falcon director Tara Williams has moved the story to 2019 to present the universal and timeless themes of marital jealousy, sibling rivalry, and the struggle for political power and control..

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch calls Lion “satisfying, well-seasoned, and wonderfully witty…perfect fare for a cold winter’s night.” The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says “if you like your humor with a dose of malice, there’s plenty of bite to (this play’s) bark.”

The Falcon production features Allen R. Middleton as Henry, Tracy M. Schoster as Eleanor, Greg Mallios as Richard, Jared Earland as Geoffrey, Clay Winstead as John, Lexi Rigsby as Alais, and Dan Robertson as Philip.

Performances are at 8 PM on March 22, 23, 28, 29, and 30, and on April 4, 5, and 6, 2019. Ticket prices are $25 for adults and $15 for students with ID. Patrons enjoy a $5 discount for Thursday performances. Visit falcontheater.net for tickets.

The Mockbee
2260 Central Pkwy, Cincinnati 45214

$18 General Admission, $35 VIP (Preferred Seating and Gift) https://tc2019Cincinnati.bpt.me

Starring: Ula Uberbusen, James & the Giant Pasty and Shirley Gnome

TAINTED CABARET is a provocative burlesque cabaret featuring stars of the renowned underground theatre scenes of New York, Toronto, and Vancouver. A sinfully funny mix of satirical song and irreverent neo-burlesque, their show is a deliciously naked evening of sexy, campy and theatrical entertainment. Smart and subversive, Tainted Cabaret celebrates sensuality, sexuality, and redefines the rigid structures of traditional femininity. The award-winning cast welcomes their audience into their uncensored and liberating world with open arms.

Out for their second national tour, Tainted Cabaret hits the open road in March and April 2019. New cast member, #1 iTunes charting cabaret comedian and ‘chanteuse provocateur’ Shirley Gnome (“Dark, sexy, over-the-top and she’ll sing songs that will make sailors blush.” -Sunday Mail, Australia) joins producer Ula Uberbusen (“An absolute delight…beautiful and touching.” -Burlesque Beat) and boylesque superstar James & The Giant Pasty (“Ridiculous fun stuffed into a sequinned jockstrap.” -Edmonton Vue). Traveling through over twenty states from New York to New Orleans, and Durham to Denver, this all-star cast is making a stop at The Mockbee on Friday, March 22nd. They hope to bring a feel-good, adults only extravaganza that Cincinnati will never forget.

“Working with a team of smart and talented artists, all at the top of their game, means that we empower each other to create entertaining and thought-provoking theater,” says Ula Uberbusen about producing Tainted Cabaret. James and the Giant Pasty adds about performing burlesque, “There is no other art form where you get to connect so viscerally with the audience. You get to look them right in the eye, acknowledge them, make them feel something, and then hear and feel their response.” Shirley Gnome says that combing her comedic songs with burlesque is a perfect fit because “my music comes from a very positive, revealing, shameless place, and I find that energy seems to compliment burlesque perfectly.”

Tainted Cabaret is on tour in March and April 2019.

From the Brat Pack to The West Wing to Parks and Rec and beyond, Stories I Only Tell My Friends LIVE! is packed with witty fun and one-of-a-kind insights spanning an iconic career. Broadway World raves “The humor is first class, with the jokes and funny anecdotes keeping the audience in stitches for most of the night.” In addition to Rob’s storytelling, the show will include a Q&A and plenty of insider film clips and photos. “This isn’t a regurgitation of the books, because that wouldn’t be very much fun,” Lowe says. “This is very much its own beast, but it does have some of the same feel of the books.”

Lowe released his memoir, Stories I Only Tell My Friends, in 2011. The book was an instant hit, spending consecutive weeks in the top four of The New York Times best sellers and making it onto GQ’s “Best of 2011” book list. Lowe’s second book, Love Life, was published in 2014 and also landed a spot on The New York Times best-seller list. “I decided to put what would be the third book into a show where I could go out directly to an audience and share and have an exchange with them directly,” he says. “Frankly, I love meeting people, being out in front of them, hearing their comments. It’s really fun,” says Lowe.

FIVE LITTLE MONKEYS to Venture Off the Hill This Spring

PIP_FiveLittleMonkeys_Visual

Audiences will love the wildly entertaining show based on the children’s book playing April 5 through May 19

CINCINNATI – From shopping to baking to jumping on the bed, these five little monkey siblings are getting into some trouble! This spring, Playhouse presents its final Off the Hill touring show with Ernie Nolan’s adaptation of Eileen Chistelow’s children’s book series, FIVE LITTLE MONKEYS. Brought to life through the Bruce E. Doyle Acting Intern company, this zany production will travel to community centers throughout the Greater Cincinnati area from April 5 through May 19.

When Christelow was taught an old nursery rhyme that her daughter learned in preschool — “Five little monkeys jumping on the bed, one fell off and bumped her head” — she thought that it would create a nice picture book. Twelve years later, after becoming an author and illustrator, she revisited the idea for a new project. With the remarkable success of Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, Christelow expanded the story into a best-selling children’s book series where the treasured monkey siblings get into all kinds of mischief.

Audiences will love tagging along for the wild adventures of this adorable monkey family, including the stories: Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, Five Little Monkeys Bake a Birthday Cake, Five Little Monkeys Sitting in a Tree, and Five Little Monkeys Go Shopping.

Nolan’s script integrates plot lines from four of the ten monkey books while also preserving its witty cumulative verse. From baking cakes to sitting in trees, or going shopping and jumping on beds, Nolan gives distinct personality traits to each monkey sibling which only heightens the hilarity of their ongoing mishaps.

Under the direction of Brian Robinson, the Playhouse’s production of FIVE LITTLE MONKEYS brings the storybook to life with a whimsical set by Playhouse Scenic Artist Kenton Brett and a frenetic soundscape by Sound Designer Trey Tatum. Audiences will love the technical magic of an exploding birthday cake and snapping jaws of a crocodile. Brett designed the oven with a trick door that allows a cake to go in, and then with a simple flick, the stove bursts open to reveal an exploded cake inside.

“Thematically, FIVE LITTLE MONKEYS celebrates the innocence and discovery in the wonders of childhood,” explains Playhouse Director of Education and Community Engagement Daunielle Rasmussen. “The monkeys have a curiosity and an excitement for learning. While it gets the monkeys into trouble, there is an earnestness and beauty to their childlike spirit.”

FIVE LITTLE MONKEYS is recommended for children ages 3 and up and runs approximately 50 to 60 minutes. The Playhouse’s production will journey all over greater Cincinnati, from Oxford to Cheviot to Union to Covington and many places in between.

Seasonal support of education and outreach by The Robert and Adele Schiff Family Foundation. The Bruce E. Coyle Acting Intern Company is supported by Jerry and Betsy Shroat.

The Playhouse is supported by the generosity of almost 40,000 contributors to the ArtsWave Community campaign.
