Seasons Sweetings with New Edgecliff Radio Show on Dec. 14

Seasons Sweetings with New Edgecliff Radio Show
It’s a new reason to believe.

NET_Seasons SweetingsThis December New Edgecliff Theatre’s (NET) ever-popular radio drama fundraiser “Sweet Suspense” becomes Seasons Sweetings for the holidays.

The players of fictional WNET radio station return to put their stamp on the holiday classic A Miracle on 34th Street. They bring to life the entire story through dozens of character voices and live Foley sound effects by Media Heritage’s Mike Martini. The WNET Radio Players will perform a one-night only event at 7pm, Sunday, December 14 at Northside Tavern. Seating is limited, so order tickets early. This holiday classic features returning NET actors and several new performers, portraying a variety of voice roles for a live studio audience – but not broadcast!

“Radio theatre is a wonderful thing to experience,” says artistic director Jim Stump. “The audience gets to actually see sound effects being created, while actors not only perform on microphone, but interact off-microphone as well. It’s fascinating and entertaining.”

In addition to the performance, the audience will be treated to The Midwest Culinary Institute of Cincinnati State providing delectable desserts to treat your taste buds, and “Sweet Suspense” regular Bob Allen returns to direct.

Listen as Macy’s Department Store comes to life in the Theatre of the Mind as you are whisked away to yesteryear in this radio adaptation of one of the most beloved retro Christmas tales. Listen as store manager Doris Walker frantically hires a replacement Santa for the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Is he the real Kris Kringle, or just a sad, delusional man? Beliefs and sanity are tested when Kris is thrown into an asylum, but with the help of a friendly lawyer and the belief of a little girl, the true Spirit of Christmas endures. Tickets are available online at CincyTicket.com or by calling 1.888.428.7311. All tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under.

NET Benefit: LIGHTS, CAMERA, MURDER on Nov. 15

NET_Lights, Camera, MurderHELP US RAISE SOME FUNDS WITH A MURDER MYSTERY.

Gloria Swansong is coming back to the silver screen. But someone wants to send her to that big screening room in the sky instead! Could it be the spurned lover, the jealous stand-in, or does someone have a dark secret? No more “close-ups” for Miss Swansong! The murder mystery show will be held at The Cabaret at the Below Zero Lounge in the Gateway Quarter (1120 Walnut Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202) on Saturday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m.

The event serves as a major fundraiser for New Edgecliff Theatre (NET). Tickets are still available for the one-night only evening, according to Shawn Maus, the theatre’s managing director.

The evening will feature The Whodunit? Players joined by friends of New Edgecliff. Guests may dress in their best red carpet attire or simply come dressed for an evening out, while enjoying beverages from the cash bar at the Cabaret. Maus notes that any donations are tax-deductible.

The event is one of four planned fundraisers hosted by NET this year, although this event is more theatrical in nature.

“From the minute you walk in, the actors will be performing,” Maus says.

He gives a special shout-out to the Below Zero Lounge for hosting the event after it became clear the theatre’s new home space would not be ready in time. “Below Zero and the Whodunit Players graciously stepped forward and opened their space and lent their talents for the event,” Maus says.

“It’s a great night to sit down with some cool people, have terrific drinks, see a show that’s happening all around you, and support NET,” Maus notes.

All money raised will go to the New Edgecliff’s operating fund, Maus says. That fund provides for main stage productions such as the planned local premiere of David Mamet’s “Race” in April.

“It is an investment in our community,” Maus says, “because all these things we do that people love are made possible through support of the operating fund.”

“We wanted to do something different. At NET, we create experiences. This is more than just a fundraiser. This is an evening experience.” Maus says of the murder mystery.
