About the Event: This event is unique in that it will be a hybrid between a typical staged reading format and a full production. The audience will get a look “behind the curtain” as we show them what would happen on a typical first day of rehearsal for a professional theater show (only a bit more jazzed up for entertainment purposes). Audiences will get to see 2 brand new plays in staged reading format with light staging and costuming, where actors perform with script in hand. In addition to hearing these new stories, audiences will get to see visions for a full production in the form of set, costume and lighting designs. We hope to excite the audience about new work and have them wanting more. The Ghostlight’s future plans involve fully producing at least one of these plays in our season of shows next year with the same design visions shown in this event.

What to Prepare: Sides will be provided to those that submit if we would like to see more from you after initial h/r submission. See below.

IN-PERSON Submission: To submit for an in-person audition please use the email heading: “DOUBLE FEATURE IN PERSON SUBMISSION.” In the body of your email please include the roles you have interest in and times you are available on August 12 and 13 from 1pm-3pm EST for your initial audition and on August 14 from 6:30pm-8:30pm for a potential callback. Attach a copy of your updated headshot and resume. We will follow up with the full scripts and sides to prepare for the audition, as well as your audition time slot, if selected to come in person. Send these submissions to our CEO/President, Alyssa Batsakis at: alyssa@theghostlightstageco.com

Video Submission: Initial video submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis from now until August 12, 2023 at 11:59pm EST. To submit, please use the email heading: “DOUBLE FEATURE VIRTUAL SUBMISSION.” In the body of your email please include the roles you have interest in, where you are currently based and if you have housing available in the Greater Cincinnati area during the time of production. Attach a copy of your updated headshot and resume. We will follow up with the full scripts and sides to prepare and send back no later than August 14, 2023 at 5pm EST. Send these submissions to our CEO/President, Alyssa Batsakis at: alyssa@theghostlightstageco.com

ABOUT THE SHOWS

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA: Youth Edition
Based on Cinderella by Charles Perrault
Directed by: Christopher Stewart
Choreography by: Tina DeAlterede

This magical musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein will feature a BIPOC creative team, and diversity will be celebrated as your favorite characters show us “Impossible” is possible! If you loved the 1997 film version of this classic musical, you won’t want to miss this enchanting production!

Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, this enthralling fairy tale still warms the hearts of children and adults alike.

4 MEN, 3 WOMEN

CAST OF CHARACTERS

PAIGE CALDWELL, female, 20s to 30s. A professional pollster. A smart, confident women with a professional’s view of politics: she sees it as a series of contests to be won.

DAVE RILEY, male, 30s to 40s. The Chief of Staff of the new Governor. Very smart, but – despite years of experience in government – endearingly earnest and naïve on the subject of politics.
