Auditions Announced for 2024 EDUCATIONAL TOURING COMPANY at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company

The Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is excited to announce auditions for the 2024 Educational Tour productions of Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. The auditions will be held at our theatre, 1195 Elm St. in downtown Cincinnati, in the Stone Student Center on the following dates:

SUNDAY AUGUST 27:  12:00PM – 5:00PM

MONDAY AUGUST 28:  10:00AM – 1:00PM

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

EDUCATIONAL TOURING COMPANY 

(Must be Non-Equity) Six actors are needed for the Educational Touring Company.  These actors bring Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth and other educational experiences to schools and communities in Cincinnati and beyond. The dates of our 2024 Educational Tour are: First Rehearsal: 1/8/2024; Opening: 1/29/24; Closing: 6/2/24.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Tour: Each actor will be cast in multiple roles in three programs, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, and a 45 minute version of The Comedy of Errors, that will tour to Cincinnati, Dayton, and Ohio area schools, educational institutions, and community centers during the year. There will be occasional overnight trips for schools located farther away.

Educational Outreach: Actors will be designated CSC Teaching Artists for our various educational outreach programs, leading in-school workshops, residencies, and more. They will receive Teaching Artist training, and will have the opportunity to design their own workshops and curriculum.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Please prepare two contrasting Shakespeare monologues, not exceeding 4 minutes in total length.

Yes. Video auditions are accepted. Send a link or file to justin.mccombs@cincyshakes.com.  Please submit all video auditions by Sunday, August 27th.

Children’s Auditions Announced for THE SOUND OF MUSIC at Xavier University Theatre

CHILDREN’S AUDITIONS:

  • Children between the ages of 7-13 may audition for children roles in the show.
  • Prepare an age-appropriate song of your choice and a short (30-60 seconds) monologue if you have one.
  • Please bring three copies of your headshot and resume.
  • Please sign up for one 8-minute time slot on Saturday morning (Aug 26).
  • Children callbacks will take place on Sunday (Aug 27) from 1:00-3:00. Those called back will be notified by email on Saturday evening (Aug 26).

REHEARSALS WILL BEGIN FOR THE SOUND OF MUSIC ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5. Rehearsals usually take place on Tuesday-Friday evenings, along with Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The show runs during Xavier’s Family Weekend from October 19-22.

Auditions Announced for THE MOORS and BEHEADING COLUMBUS at Magnolia Theatre Company

MTC_logoMagnolia Theatre Company, Dayton’s feminist theatre company, is proud to partner with the University of Dayton’s Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology program for its 2023-24 Season. 

Auditions for the first two shows of the season will be held August 31 in Fitz Hall 479 and September 1 at the University of Dayton’s Black Box Theatre from 6-8pm.  Auditions will consist of readings from the script.  Sides will be provided in the audition form

Callbacks will be held as needed.

Personnel:  Michelle Campbell Hayford (UD Theatre, Dance, and Performance Technology program director, and director of The Moors), Gina Handy Minyard (Founding Artistic Director), Annie Pesch (Director, Beheading Columbus)

THE MOORS by Jen Silverman
Rehearsal start date: Oct 17
Rehearsal frequency: Weekday evenings, no rehearsals for Thanksgiving week
Performance dates:  November 30- December 3, 2023 (4 performances)
Rehearsal and Performance location: UD Black Box Theatre

Breakdown:
From the playwright:  Think Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre and the Bronte sisters…but this is the present.  All characters have an American accent.

Content Disclosure: The roles of Agatha and Emilie require mouth to mouth contact  and stage combat–(intimacy and combat direction will be provided).  The play discusses/portrays the following topics: sexuality, both lesbian and heterosexual, domestic violence, death, stage blood.

  • Agatha- Female. Elder Spinster Sister. Dangerous. Powerful.
  • Huldey- Female. Younger Spinster Sister. She has a diary. She wants to be famous. (sings a power ballad to recorded accompaniment)
  • Emilie- Female. The governess. A romantic with a sweet face.  (sings a song to recorded accompaniment)
  • Marjory- Female. The scullery maid. Down-trodden. Strategic.
  • The Mastiff- Male. The dog. A sad philosopher king.
  • A Moor-Hen- Female. Practical and very present- tense.

This cast will be a combination of University of Dayton students and non-union professional actors.  All non- union professional actors will be paid a $1600 stipend. Those interested in being considered for Huldey and Emile should prepare 30 second excerpt of a pop ballad (a cappella or track, speaker will be provided).

BEHEADING COLUMBUS by Diana Burbano
A Femme Artisan Staged Reading
Rehearsal start date: October 9, 2023
Rehearsal frequency: October 9-12 6-9pm
Performance Dates:  October 13- 14, 2023 (2 performances)
Rehearsal location: MAC Building, Performance Location is TBD
*Talkbacks will occur after both performances

Breakdown:

Note: This script has moments where characters speak Spanish.  

  • Susi – Biracial Latina early 40’s, Sharp, witty, trying to hide seething anxiety.
  • Lana – White Latina early 30’s, Smart, fun, ambitious, confident.  (This role is pre-cast)
  • Mark – White M late 40’s, handsome but going to seed, wry and self-deprecating. also plays: Doctor Dover- White M Elderly, charming, patrician, elegant.
  • Siblings and Mama-All played by one person. Any BIPOC identity. What casting might call “Ethnically Ambiguous” which of course is no such thing. Versatile. Funny and also tragic.

Non- Union. All cast members will be paid a $200 stipend.

Auditions Announced for Cincinnati Men’s Chorus Season 33

CMC_logoCome and join the Cincinnati Men’s Chorus as we begin in-person rehearsals for our 33rd season.

Auditions are being scheduled for September 6th and 13th from 6-6:45pm.

St. John’s Unitarian Universalist Church – 320 Resor Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45220

All you need to do is prepare a short piece to sing and bring the sheet music along with you (if you aren’t able to access sheet music we will have a piece on hand).

Rehearsals will take place immediately after auditions, so stick around to sing with us!
