Auditions Announced for THE ELEPHANT MAN at Brookville Community Theatre

The Elephant Man is based on the life of John Merrick, who lived in London during the latter part of the nineteenth century. A horribly deformed young man Ð the victim of rare skin and bone diseases Ð he becomes the star freak attraction in traveling sideshows. Found abandoned and helpless, he is admitted to LondonÕs prestigious Whitechapel Hospital. Under the care of celebrated young physician Frederick Treves, Merrick is introduced to London society and slowly evolves from an object of pity to an urbane and witty favorite of the aristocracy and literati, only to be denied his ultimate dream Ð to become a man like any other.

Auditions Announced for Green Day’s AMERICAN IDIOT at INNOVAtheatre

Prospective Participants auditioning for the following roles and/or ensemble roles can decline auditions without fear of losing future audition invitations. No stage combat, sexual content, nudity, partial nudity, feats of physical daring, or other reasonably understood high-risk activities will be required during auditions. The dance portion of the audition will be recorded for casting purposes. The recording will be used privately among casting authorities and destroyed/deleted after the completion of casting. 2 Audition days will take place at the Sorg Opera House; Sunday, February 4th at 3PM and Monday, February 5th at 7PM. Callbacks are scheduled for Wednesday, February 7th at 7PM.

The story, expanded from that of the album, centers on three disaffected young men, Johnny, Will and Tunny. Johnny and Tunny flee a stifling suburban lifestyle and parental restrictions, while Will stays at home to work out his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend, Heather. The former pair look for meaning in life and try out the freedom and excitement of the city. Tunny quickly gives up on life in the city, joins the military and is shipped off to war. Johnny turns to drugs and finds a part of himself that he grows to dislike, has a relationship and experiences lost love.

  • Tunny – 20s – Male-identifying – D3-B4. The guy who goes to the city and the Middle East
  • Role of Tunny portrays limb amputation and will require wheelchair use and use of leg prosthetic and/or costume piece in rehearsals and performances
  • Will – 20s – Male-identifying – C#3-B4. The guy that stays home in Suburbia
  • St. Jimmy – 20s – Any gender – C3-F#5. A city badass. Johnny’s alter ego
  • Heather – 20s – Female-identifying – A3-E5. A girl in suburbia. Will’s girlfriend
  • Whatsername – 20s – Female-identifying – F#3-D#5. A girl in the city
  • Extraordinary Girl – 20s – Female-identifying – Bb3-E5. A girl in the Middle East
  • Ensemble: Theo, Declan, Chase, Brian, Ben, Andrew, Miguel, Gerard, Joshua, Alysha, Libby, and Leslie.

Preparations: A headshot and resume are preferred but not required. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to the audition to fill out required forms.The audition will consist of 2 parts; Vocal and Dance. For the vocal portion please bring 16-32 bars of your choice of musical theatre song and one 30-60 second segment from a pop-punk song. Please send the instrumental/karaoke track and timestamps to gldrewyor@gmail.com with the subject “INNOVA Audition”. Please provide printed sheet music in a binder, either hole-punched and double sided or back-to-back in sheet protectors. For the dance portion, Bring any of the following to dance in: tennis shoes, vans, converse, combat style boots (preferably no heel). Please do not wear: jazz shoes, character shoes, or any other typical theatre dance shoes.

Those auditioning for Johnny will be asked to read a portion of lines during callbacks.

(Optional) Those auditioning for Johnny, Tunny, and Will are encouraged to demonstrate 30-60 seconds of guitar proficiency. Guitar provided. Casting will not be determined solely on guitar proficiency. Guitar coaching will be available outside of normal rehearsal time.

Submissions are due by 11:59 PM EST on February 11, 2024.
Performers must be 18 years of age or older by May 28, 2024 to submit an audition.

What to prepare:

Actors who play instruments are encouraged but not required to showcase that in their audition — particularly those submitting for roles in TICK, TICK… BOOM! or for Carole King in BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL.

Note: Actors interested only in the roles of Don Kirschner or Genie Klein in BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL may submit a 1-minute monologue in place of a song.

Audition videos will only be accepted as links. Files requiring download will not be accepted. Please create separate videos for each song and the dance combination. You will be asked to submit them separately in the online form.

Please ensure that privacy settings are such that we are enabled to view by the link only, with no need for password or additional access request. Please film your material in a horizontal/landscape frame on a solid background or plain wall. A ¾ shot is preferred.

Your headshot must be an image file and your resume must be in PDF format. Both should be labeled with you name (i.e. Gabbard_Tyler.pdf)

Callbacks
Callbacks will be a mix of live and digital based on the availability of the auditionee and production staff. In-person callbacks are planned for the afternoon/evening of Sunday, March 3 for THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW and BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL and the evening of Monday, March 4 for TICK, TICK… BOOM!

Casting
All auditionees will be notified of casting outcomes by March 17, 2024.

The Carnegie is committed to inclusive casting. All races, ethnicities, gender identities, body types, and mobilities are encouraged to apply. Pronouns listed in the character breakdown refer to the genders of the characters only. Actors should submit for any roles they feel comfortable playing.

Compensation

  • One-time stipends range from $1000-$1400 per contract, dependent on role and swing tracks.
  • Local-hire AEA actors may be considered for principal roles. AEA actors should contact Tyler Gabbard, tgabbard@thecarnegie.com, before submitting.
  • No housing provided.

Rehearsals and Performances
Rehearsals will take place in the evenings and on weekends. Daytime rehearsals may be added based on the availability of the cast and production staff.

COVID-19 Policies
The Carnegie fervently encourages all auditioners to seek the Covid-19 vaccination before attending in-person callbacks. Proof of a completed initial vaccine course may be requested before the start of rehearsals for all company members. Rehearsals may be conducted in masks depending on virus transmission rates. Performances and audiences will not be masked.

  • If you prefer to be featured as a DANCER please come to auditions and meet with our production team!   We seek dancers with classical experience/training.

  • The role of Rudolph has been cast as Sami Shabaan.

Auditions Announced for DEAR WORLD at The Drama Workshop

TDW_VERTThe Drama Workshop, led by director Dennis Murphy and musical director Linda Abbott, will hold a second round of auditions for the musical DEAR WORLD on Monday, Jan 29. The auditions begin at 7 pm with doors opening at 6:30 for sign ups. Auditions will be held at the Glenmore Playhouse, 3716 Glenmore Ave. Cheviot, OH 45211. 

The production is still in need of 3 middle-aged men, and 1-2 younger men. There are also still roles available for women. One character is mute, playable by any gender. We’d like to cast someone for that role who knows ASL, but someone willing to learn would be good too!

DEAR WORLD has music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, famous for such musicals as Hello, Dolly!, Mame and La Cage au Folles. Book is by Lawrence and Lee.

Based on a play called The Madwoman of Chaillot by Jean Giraudoux, the plot follows the eccentric Countess Aurelia and her struggles against the straitlaced authority figures in her life. She and her cohort defend their Parisian neighborhood against scheming and corrupt developers. The forces of idealism, love, and poetry win over those of greed, materialism, and science.

Performances for DEAR WORLD will be May 3 thru 19, 2024.

An accompanist will be provided for auditions. Please bring sheet music in your key with cuts clearly marked.  Also bring a headshot and resume, and any conflicts February 1 through May 19, 2024.
