Auditions Announced for OTHERING at SSCC Theatre

SSCC Theatre will hold auditions for the spring production of OTHERING, a new, original play by Rainee Angles.

Open to community members and students, auditions will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, and at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on Southern State Community College’s Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

OTHERING weaves together the cast and crew’s personal experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic with their poignant performance of “The Diary of Anne Frank”. Through diaries, news stories, social media, and powerful original dialogue, OTHERING explores the heightened systemic racism and societal challenges that, while not comparable in severity to Anne Frank’s world, share some unsettling similarities. This innovative performance fuses video, sound, and projections to create a compelling narrative that reflects humanity’s resilience and struggles in 2020 creating a unique and thought-provoking journey that connects past and present in an unforgettable theatrical event.

Those interested in auditioning should prepare a dramatic one- to two-minute monologue and schedule an audition slot at https://www.sscctheatre.com/auditions. Memorization of the monologue is recommended but not required. Those interested in working on available crew positions will be asked to complete an interview during the day of auditions, and should also schedule an interview slot at the same link.

If interested in auditioning or working crew, but unavailable to attend either audition date, please contact Director Rainee Angles (rangles@sscc.edu) to schedule an alternate date prior to January 17.

OTHERING will be performed April 4 – 6. For more information about available roles and rehearsal schedule, please visit www.sscctheatre.com.

Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. As luck would have it, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.

Auditions Announced for WORKING at Beechmont Players

Beechmont Players and director Maggie Ingram King are excited to announce auditions for their Spring production, WORKING: A Musical. Adapted by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Pippin) & Nina Faso (Godspell) with songs by Schwartz, James Taylor, Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In The Heights), Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Susan Birkenhead, and Mary Rodgers.

Synopsis:
Based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers, WORKING paints a vivid portrait of the workers the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the waitress, the fireman, the mason, and the housewife, just to name a few. While professions have been updated since the original script, the show, still set in contemporary America, contains timeless truths. Behind every job, there is a person with a story to tell.

SPECIAL FOR THIS PRODUCTION: We have been granted permission to perform a “localized version” of this show, meaning the director has the option to remove certain roles currently in the script and replace them with monologues/segments of professions unique to our area.*

Audition Dates & Info:

  • Tues, Jan. 7th and Wed, Jan 8th: 6:30PM – 8:30PM
Invited callbacks will be Thurs, Jan 9th if needed.

Location: Cherry Grove United Methodist Church at 1428 Eight Mile Rd

This show allows for both singers and non-singers. Even if singing is not your strong suit, you are still encouraged to audition. Please prepare 16-24 bars of any song which best showcases your vocal abilities. An accompanist will be provided so please bring sheet music, marked with starting and ending places. No acapella singing will be accepted. Cold readings will also be done from the script.

Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will begin at the end of January/beginning of February. Not all actors will be called for every rehearsal until closer to show time. Rehearsal schedule will be based on cast conflicts but will occur 2-3 times a week.

Sign up to audition here! https://www.signupgenius.com/…/10C0E44ADAB2EA0F58…

Walk-ins are accepted but will be seen at first available slot.

Thanks to our ability to perform a ‘localized version,” available roles may differ from the script, however, there are: Over 20 roles to be filled by multiple genders, races & ethnicities, with ages ranging from 16 – 80 years old, and different vocal ranges. Cast members may be asked to play multiple roles.

Questions? Email director Maggie Ingram King at maingram87@gmail.com.

WORKING runs May 2-10, 2025.
