Season Auditions Announced for New Edgecliff Theatre

NETSeason Auditions

New Edgecliff Theatre will hold auditions for their 20th Anniversary Season Friday July 7 from 6 to 9 pm and Sunday July 9 from 6 to 9 pm for the following productions:

MASTER CLASS by Terrence McNally
Directed by Farley Norman
Rehearsals September 10 – October 4, Performances October 5-21, 2017

Aging diva Maria Callas is teaching a master class in front of an audience. She’s glamorous, commanding, larger than life—and drop-dead funny. She and her accompanist have three young singers coming to learn from the great Callas.  The lessons are far from what they and she expect.

Cast

  • Maria Callas – 40+, former opera star who still commands a devoted following
  • Manny – her accompanist, must play the piano
  • Sophie – a first soprano, must sing
  • Tony – a tenor, must sing
  • Sharon – a second soprano, must sing
  • Stagehand

VENUS IN FUR by David Ives
Directed by Greg Proccacino
Rehearsals – January 21 – February 14, Performances February 15 – March 3, 2018

Thomas is desperate to find an actress to play Vanda, the female lead in his adaptation of the classic sadomasochistic tale Venus in Fur. Into his empty audition room walks a vulgar and equally desperate actress—oddly enough, named Vanda. Though utterly wrong for the sophisticated part (she’s brash, vulgar and unschooled), Vanda exhibits a strange command of the material, piquing Thomas’ interest with her seductive talents and secretive manner. As the two work through the script, they blur the line between play and reality, entering into an increasingly serious game of submission and domination that only one of them can win. A mysterious, funny, erotic drama that represents yet another departure for the multifaceted David Ives.

Cast

  • Thomas – a beleaguered playwright/director
  • Vanda – mid to late 20’s, an actress who is a bit off-beat but with the ability to transform to the parts in the Thomas’ play

A LIFE IN THE THEATRE by David Mamet
Directed by Elizabeth Harris
Rehearsals March 18 – April 11, Performances April 12 – 28, 2018

The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Glengarry Glen Ross and Speed-The-Plow, takes us into the lives of two actors: John, young and rising into the first flush of his success; the other Robert, older, anxious, and beginning to wane. In a series of short, spare, and increasingly raw exchanges, we see the estrangement of youth from age and the wider, inevitable and endless cycle of life, in and out of the theatre.

Cast

  • Robert – 50, an older actor
  • John – 25-35, a younger actor
  • Stage Manager

Auditionees should prepare one contemporary monologue.  Those wishing to be considered for the students in Master Class should prepare 16 bars of an opera piece or classical aria.

Auditions will be held at Thomas More College, 333 Thomas More Parkway, Crestview Hills, KY 41017.  Signs will be posted directing you to the theatre.

To schedule an appointment, email Producing Artistic Director Jim Stump at jstump@newedgecliff.com
