Auditions Announced for Dayton Contemporary Dance Company

DCDC_Auditions logoWe’re seeking male & female dancers, ages 18-24, to join our Dayton Contemporary Dance Second Company. Our preprofessional dance ensemble provides free training & opportunities for community engagement & dance performances. The position is nonsalaried.

Auditions are June 23. Registration starts at 10am, the audition will run 11am to 1pm, at our studios, located at 840 Germantown St., Dayton.

The cost is $20. Bring ballet & jazz shoes, head and full body shots, and a resume.

ASSASSINS will be performed at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, 101 S. Monument Ave., Hamilton, in the Fitton Family Theater. This is a Greater Hamilton Civic Theatre show — the organization is working in collaboration with the Fitton Center in honor of its 25th anniversary.

CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES

  • American Ensemble: Greek chorus of 4-6 strong character actors/singers to play 100+ roles from every American time period. Seeking performers of all voice types capable of strong characterization and comedic timing. Dance ability or special talents/instrument playing a plus.
  • The Proprietor: Male or Female. Vocal range top- F4, bottom- Gb2. Ageless. Mysterious. Seductive. Charisma of a circus ringmaster.
  • The Balladeer: Male or Female. Age 18-35. Vocal range top- G4, bottom- C3. The American everyman. Narrator of the action. Youthful. Witty.
  • John Wilkes Booth: Male. Age 25-40. Vocal range top- G4, bottom- F2. The American pioneer of assassination. Vainglorious. Charismatic. Proficient with genteel southern accent a plus.
  • Charles Guiteau: Male or Female. Age 30-55. Vocal range top-Ab4, bottom- A2. Charming. Friendly. A murdering madman.
  • Leon Csolgosz: Male. Age 25-45. Vocal range top-G4, bottom-G#2. Angry. Brooding. Poverty worn-radical.
  • Giuseppe Zangara: Male or female. Age 25-45. Vocal range top- A4, bottom- B2. Enraged. Frantic. Driven to insanity by chronic pain. Proficient with Italian accent a plus.
  • Sam Byck: Male or female. Age 35-55. Vocal range top- G4, bottom-D3. Strong actor/improviser. Comedic timing and turn on a dime temper tantrums.
  • Sara Jane Moore: Female. Age 30-55. Vocal range top-Eb5, bottom- F3. Frazzled. Medicated. In her own reality. Comedic timing a must.
  • John Hinckley: Male. Age 18-35. Vocal range top-G4, bottom- A2. Depressed. Delusional. Desperate for affection.

Auditions Announced for THE WEDDING SINGER at Greater Hamilton Civic Theatre

GHCT_logoDirector Brett Parr and Producer Carrie Rusche are thrilled to announce auditions for the October 2018 production of “The Wedding Singer”! Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4, 5, 6 and 2 p.m. Oct. 7. All performances are at Parrish Auditorium on the Miami University Hamilton campus, 1601 University Blvd., Hamilton.

Auditions will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7 and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8. Callbacks will be at 6 p.m. Monday, July 9. Auditions, callbacks, and rehearsals will be at the Creative Center at the Palace, 215 S. Third Street, Hamilton, Ohio 45011. Those who audition are asked to prepare 32 bars of a song, preferably a pop/rock show tune. An accompanist will be provided. Please come dressed to dance. Those auditioning are asked to sign-up for an audition time. Online Sign-ups will open on June 7, 2018. Check the website for the sign-up link then.

SHOW SYNOPSIS:
The year is 1985, where the hair is big and the collars are popped. This musical comedy follows wannabe rock star Robbie Hart, a wedding singer, on a trip down the aisle we’ll never forget.

CAST OF CHARACTERS:

Seeking a cast of energetic and strong triple-threats, ages 16 and older. All roles are open.

  • JULIA: Waitress at the “House of Class,” falls in love with Robbie. Vocal Range: A below the staff to fourth space E.
  • HOLLY: Julia’s sexy cousin, fashions herself as a cross between Madonna & Cyndi Lauper. Vocal Range: B below the staff to fourth space E.
  • ROSIE: Robbie’s Grandmother, an old lady with a lot of spunk. Must be able to rap. Vocal Range: Middle C to third space C.
  • LINDA: Robbie’s Fiancée, leaves him at the altar, a hard core Rocker Chick, will also perform with Ensemble. Vocal Range: A below the staff to fourth line D.
  • ANGIE: Julia’s mother, wants her to marry Glen for his money, will also perform with Ensemble. Vocal Range: D below the staff to fourth space E.
  • ROBBIE: The Wedding Singer, a lovable guy, that you can’t help smile at. Guitar Playing Skills a plus.. Vocal Range: B below the staff to A above the staff.
  • SAMMY: Robbie’s best friend, plays guitar in the band. Vocal Range: C below the staff to fifth line F.
  • GEORGE: A “Boy George” wannabe, plays with the band. Vocal Range: C below the staff to A above the staff.
  • GLEN: Julia’s fiancée, very pompous and conceited, a true lady’s man. Vocal Range: C below the staff to fourth line D.
  • IMPERSONATORS: Billy Idol, Mr. T, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Imelda Marcos. Impersonators will also be Ensemble Members.
  • ENSEMBLE: Servers, waitresses, accountants, retail employees, wedding guests, bridesmaids,etc. Seeking strong dancers and sharp pop/rock vocals. Ensemble members will play various roles.

Auditions Announced for FutureFest 2018 at Dayton Playhouse

Auditions for FutureFest 2018

DPH_logoAuditions begin at 7pm each evening. Auditioners are encouraged to arrive at the Dayton Playhouse in advance of the auditions to fill out the Audition Form. Theatre resumes are encouraged; auditioners need to be prepared to list all conflicts between the audition date and the final performance of the production. All auditions are held at the Dayton Playhouse: 1301 Siebenthaler Avenue in Dayton (inside Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark).

Queen of Sad Mischance
Directed by Richard Lee Waldeck
Synopsis: A play about gender, race, academia, and belonging.
Cast: 1m, 2f

Kym: 21, biracial with a black mother and white father. An intense, focused English major, reluctant to open up to others about herself.
Beverly: 55, white. An energetic, driven, feminist Shakespeare scholar beginning to be affected by early-onset Alzheimers. She tends not to finish her sentences. Especially in the first act, this isn’t because she has lost her train of thought but because her quick mind has moved on to the next idea.
Roy: 28, white. Beverly’s son, an actor. He’s left a graduate level acting program to move home and become his mother’s live-in caretaker.

Last Rites – Detroit, 1967
Directed by Kip Moore
Synopsis: Three strangers caught in the middle of the Detroit riots.
Cast: 2m, 1f

Ron Szymanski: 44, Polish/American, Catholic, 7 children. Proprietor of the Standard Oil gas station/convenience store on 12thSt. Lives in New Baltimore, MI, 15 miles outside of Detroit.
Esther Rollins: 68, African-American, Baptist, widow. Works nights as a cleaning woman at a local newspaper which has offices just outside of Detroit.
Sydney Rozier: 28, African-American. He lives in another neighborhood. He has come to 12th St. looking for a friend and out of curiosity, and he has been caught up in the riots.

What Are Words Worth to a Long Fellow?
Directed by Debra Kent
Synopsis: A young man intent on living a dissolute, artistic life is driven by necessity and the insistence of his older sister into accepting responsibility. Distracting him from this goal is a new love interest, along with her disapproving brother.
Cast: 2m, 2f

Norris Jordan: irresolute and aimless young poet.
Debbie Marsh: cheerful but sensible coed.
Phyllis Jordan: Norris’ bossy but caring big sister.
Jack Marsh: Debbie’s protective brother, very large.

Late in the Game (Reading)

Synopsis: Late in the Game is a play that looks at the experience of aging from the perspective of Baby Boomers. When a group of aging academics decide to try their hand at writing erotica, their relationships begin to evolve and secrets are revealed.
Cast: 2m, 3f with doubling

Margaret: 63 and recently divorced. Teaches poetry and creative writing at the local community college.
Iris: Margaret’s long-time friend, widow, early 60s. Teaches technical writing at the same college. A founding member of the writers group.
Callie: Daughter of a recently deceased member of the group. Early 20s, pierced and fierce, with a soft underbelly that you rarely see.
Donald: Early 60s. Teaches accounting at the community college. Never married. Likes to bake. Founding member of the writers group.
James: Mid 40s. Recently hired to head the IT department at the college. New member of the writers group.
Gina Mae: Boomer age. Manager of the Lilac Cove Community Center.
John: New President of the Lilac Cove Community College. Can be played by another actor.
Assistant to John: Can be played by actor playing Callie.

Fettered (Reading)
Directed by Annie Pesch
Synopsis: Fettered takes place in the Maryland Colony in 1680 and addresses issues such as religious freedom, political independence, illiteracy, slavery/racism, and forbidden friendship. Amid the backdrop of Major Boarman’s plantation, the spotlight illuminates the developing friendship between Charles and Nell. Will their controversial relationship survive the colony’s laws or the angry disapproval of their neighbors? The risks to Nell and Charles, along with the Major, may result in dire consequences. Their strength should not be underestimated!
Cast: 4m (with doubling), 2f

Town Crier: Mid 40s-mid 50s. A man of gravity, whose air of seriousness is, on occasion, betrayed by an ironic sense of humor. Also plays: Timothy Simmons, a Maryland plantation owner; Thomas Hobbs, philosopher,; John Coode, an Anglican rebel; Father Andrew, a Catholic priest.

Charles Calvert, Third Lord Baltimore: 44 years old. A man of solid build, with a square face and jowls that are just beginning to make their appearance in his life.
Eleanor (“Irish Nell”) Butler: 16 years old. Slight of build. Came to America from Ireland when she was nine years old. A quiet girl-until you get to know her. Irish accent.
Major William Boarman: 51 years old. Athletic build, with a face that reflects the balance he strives to achieve in his life.
Charles: 25 years old. Born in Virginia to a mother who had been abducted from Africa. Medium height and build. He keeps the fire he feels carefully contained.
Mrs. Mary Mathews Boarman: 30 years old. A handsome woman with an exceptionally upright posture
